Just wondering, has anyone ever had a literal physical thirst for God and His word? like the spiritual one we can have?Does it make sense to have a literal physical thirst? I was on here last night and early this morning, I spent hours, I mean literally hours with a member in worship and all.when we were done, I was physically and spiritually thirsty, I thought it had no connection...but I was wrong...

I went to get some water, I drank and drank idk how much water, but the thirst never was quenched, so I said well I'm going to take water with me, and go ahead and read in my Bible. After I read in the Bible, I was no longer thirsty.

I mean i was like what does this mean you know? I was sort of well I was caught up in thought,I felt and thought, still do, that it's the true meaning of being dead to sin, the flesh, and all temptation there is. Not saying being perfect, as no one is perfect other than the Lord Himself, but that the mind, heart, soul, spirit, body, feelings, everything about one, is one thing, in the Lord. I know that sounds sort of...''unbelievable'' however it's true.

So yeah, just wondering, has anyone ever experienced this, or do you know anyone that has? If so, please share with me what it was like, what you felt it meant. I'm just amazed at how this happened, and want to know if my thought of understanding on this is right, or wrong, or at least along the lines of what it's suppose to mean.

Isaiah 55:1Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

John 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

He filled me, He quinched my thirst. Nothing else could, it's amazing! Praise the Lord for allowing me to have this experience! I have a never ending hunger and thirst for the Lord and His word, but this is something totally new and radical. Please help me out if you can, I would really appreciate it! God bless!

I can not say I have ever had a physical thirst as you relate but I do know that part of our relationship with God is that there are things which He and I share which no one else is expected to fully understand. They are His little gifts to me. Perhaps this the case for you. For God each of us is like a universe of perspective. Through each of our eyes He sees a little differently. For the artist God rejoices in art. For the baker God rejoices in baking. Those two may not really relate to each other's passion but God can fully explore the passion of either one. If those two do not judge each other they can enjoy fellowship. You may never find someone who see's exactly like you but that doesn't mean your sight is bad.

I can relate to this thirsting, and hunger you feel for God. I often feel that overwhelming feeling also. I believe it's the Holy Spirit working inside us. God wants to move us, and fill us with His love.

This is my first post here (hoping I'm doing it right) and wow it is really a pleasure and an honor to be among you all. I feel inspired and encouraged in my own walk.

I haven't heard of "a physical thirst for God" but it sounds wonderful to be blessed in such a way. Especially after reading the relevant quoted scriptures. Bless you all ...

Stand sister, thank you so much for sharing that. this past week the same exact thing happend to me. I was at work and i became soo thirsty. i could not stop drinking water, over and over, cup after cup. i was like what is wrong with me, lol. than it happend. on my way home i was listening to this verse on living water, and this pastors story of him and his wife as they had to move to a whole new climate, just as i did. it was like God was talking to me the whole way home and using this guys lesson for it.
Psa 42:1To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.

this study was so awesome, over and over agian there were verses on thirsting, on water, and how he also used the elistration of the isrealites as they were in the wilderness. see these verses.
Exd 17:1Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the LORD, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
Exd 17:2Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, "Give us water, that we may drink." So Moses said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?"
Exd 17:3And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, "Why [is] it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?" Exd 17:6Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
so the pastor was speaking of our king Jesus who was our Rock and that water poured out of.
Jhn 19:34But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

this was an awesome study, i don't know who the pastor was, but i listend and even after i got home, sat in my car and listened to the rest of that study.
i knew it was meant for me to hear, and now to share with you.
May God bless you and your life. love you!

I have had many thirsts after God.
If I forget to read the Bible for a few days, I miss Him. It's like, "I miss You. Let's hang out." And we do.
And it's such an amazing experience. Because unlike SO many people, He loves me. I don't really have a Dad on earth. He's just some guy that I live with. But when I spend time with my Heavenly Father, I know that God's my REAL Dad and I love it. I'm God's princess, and he's my loving Savior and it is amazing<3

Aw, I'm reading a book too. That's amazing!
It's going to be a devotional book.
I have a diary that has a quote for each day...it's a Christian diary so it has a lot of scriptures and a lot of quotes about God. And I write in it and say what that scripture means to me. =]

Olive! I love you too sis! Also, Olive and XSpinningisfun, the book I'm writing, it's called He's Not Just God, He's My Father. As I have an earthly father, but he has never really been around. The only time he was around was when he wanted or needed something, and he was drunk and high and stuff. I opted to not be around him like that, and well long story short, after child support recovery and the state threated him with taking his things and stuff, he has hid from me since. The last time I saw my dad was in December of 2007, that was at my aunts viewing, before the funeral. He was drunk then as always, didn't even talk too me or anything, and he didn't come to the funeral and I seriously needed him. Anyways, so yeah I totally understand the whole not having a father around or being there for you situation, and I totally feel compassion and sympathy for you. However at the same time, might I remind you of my favorite Bible verse of all? One God lead me to once, and ever since I can't forget it. Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Also if I may share a couple more, remember them as well Psalm 68:5 A father to the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. Proverbes 4:1 Hear, ye children, the insturction of a father, and attend to know understanding.(He's our Father, and we should attend/attempt to understand things. While we don't always understand, we can try, and He will help us to understand.) Malachi 3:5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and agains those that opress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts. James 1:27 Pre religion and undefiled before God, and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

So dear friend and sister, while the earlthy father we have may not be the best, or around or whatever, they may not be a role model or mentor or anything, BUT it's more than alright, because we have THE BEST FATHER of all! Amen! praise the LORD!

Love you!

SoOoO...I have a question and all, there's no doubt that God has laid this on my mind and heart. I experienced this thirsting and all, then did my fast, and during that fast, more pieces of the puzzle fell into place for me. It seems sort of strange in a good way, but it's like the thirsting and hungering for God tied in with what I read about during my fast. Expecially in Galatians 5:16-26, and while I understand what those verses say, at the same time I have a feeling, and I'm sure it's right that there's much more to living and having life in the Spirit. I mean it's like okay yes if we life in the Spirit and not under law we can win against our struggles of the flesh and all, but there's more I just know it because I can feel it. I have so many thoughts on what it means, that I can't even begin to put them on here. I mean being dead to sin, the flesh, and temptation is just a glimpse of it. There's surrendering fully to God, submitting yourself before Him, seeking Him, doing your best to do His will for you, figuring out what His will is for you, by that I mean allowing Him to show you, and seeking to find it. Asking Him to lead you where He wants you and to allow you to do what His will is, to let you know what you do is or isn't His will. Being faithful, spiritual journies, spiritual growth, spiritual trust, spiritual connections, hearing from God, being still and knowing He is God, just to name a few. As well as being spiritually fed and your spiritual thist being quenched.I'm really needing and wanting to know what others think and feel, what it means to you, to live, and have life by the Spirit. So what does it mean to you? You being anyone of course. I'm just going to have to fully seek God on this and ask Him to show and tell me what it means, but the help, suggestions, advice, etc. is much appreciated.

God bless!

to me it means Romans 8. I mean that talks about the spirit filled like right there. We know that are flesh cries out daily for daily things, and things we think we need but really don't. When in fact the most important thing we need is Jesus Christ Himself. He has showed me in the past when i thought i needed so much.
Rom 8:14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
take some time and read romans 8, you will love it. But thats cool your experancing a spirit fillid life.

thankies! I'll read it, also I agree. I think basically over all it's reminding us that we need to focus on God totally and not wordly and fleshly wants, desires, and temptations. I just have a LOT of thoughts, ideas, and questions...my mind is over flowing hehe but in a good way! Not sure when I'll read Romans 8, BUT I WILL read it. Thanks again!
