I have been reading through twilight by Stephanie Meyer lately and have noticed it references things in the bible a few times. is this a bad book for me to to be reading. There are a lot of things in the book that seem questionable . I would like to here what you have to say about that book if anyone has a view on it.

I suppose when it comes to books, movies, etc you should use your own judment. The thing to remember is that it is fiction and that is how you need to keep it. If it is a good read then enjoy it and just don't try to model yourself or your life around it. I just saw a good movie called knowing that has lots of bible reference in it and although the movie was powerful in its idea i didn't take it to heart. just use your own judgement.

well if u ask me ... i dont like twilight and it doesn't really follow what is in the bible, worse, it sometimes contradicts, so i wouldnt hesitate to say that it's not worth reading. i mean if i had to read a book, why not read something with content that will be used in my daily life? i dont wanna waste time reading something that wouldnt do anything, if its just to make me smile (well for me) lol i dont find vampires cute. so it wont make me smile (thats for me tho) i read funny manga series tho when i have free time :D

I have read the book, and as long as thats all you treat it as its alright, on the other hand ive never seen or read any harrypotter, Twilight is just a fictional story not witchcraft or wizard stuff its just a love story between a'vampire' and a human girl, and werewolves, so its just like count dracula on sesame street:)
just dont get carrioed away AND DEFINETLY dont use it to refer to scriptures..

It leans toward occultism, stay away.

It's a book about a woman relying completely upon a man for everything. "Love" in stalker-ish proportions. Brutality of a man against a woman he claims he loves. This is a book basically about a severely abusive relationship that moves women's rights back 100 years. Read it if you like it, but if there's any reason that it is a questionable book, it is for those reasons. Love shouldn't break your spine.

LOL wow! that is hilarious. i believe that the book was written for pure entertainment. and if you want to look into it for more than what it is. do so and don't read it. if you believe she wrote the book and took the time to include, culltism, abusive relationships, and so forth, just don't read it. i disagree with you and think the story is brilliant and it is an unusual but interesting twist on love and relationships.

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:15-17 (KJV)

hmmmm Baptistrw thank you for that verse and i think maybe that is the reason i brought it up. Ihave read that verse a lot and I think that the story seems to me about lust in away. Its hard to explian for me.

I do like the story but I just wonder if its healthy for me as a christian to be reading something like that.
I have seen some girls be totally consumed in this story with the movie and they were in total lust for Edward because of his loyalty but it is not very realistic. Bella treats Edward like her god. It is pretty weird but at the same time it is hard to put the book down once you start reading it.

22 Abstain from all [any] appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22 (KJV)

There's more than an appearance of evil in the Twilight.

personally, i kind of get frustrated that some christians think EVERYTHING you read needs to have some back christian meaning. sure, it's good if books have that stuff that you can relate to, or can get you interested in the bible... but as long as you have your head straight a book doesn't NEED to have that in it. i have read the twilight saga and it entertained me for a good 2 weekends. it's a fictional story, there's not really any reference to God that i saw, but not really anything contradictory either? i mean, other than the whole immortality thing. lol

take it as entertainment, as FICTION... because that is exactly what it is. you're not going to go to Hell for reading a book (i have also read the harry potter books and LOVE them dearly! haha), but if you feel uncomfortable reading it then just stop! haha you should know whether or not you can handle what you're reading. i mean, i get really absorbed in my books but i would NEVER in my life think that some vampire was going to come sweep me off my feet! lol!

other than the bible, i consider all other books works of opinion or fiction *shrugs*... the bible is the only book i trust to be 100% non-fiction... complete, real, truth. :)

lol. all i can say is, if its something that pulls you away from God, then why still do it? but if it draws you closer to Him, then why stop?

but , for me (from my own point of view), :D a person who enjoys reading God's Word, won't have enough time to read other books :D :D :D and..

loveinyourarms - if you ask me, reading books like that, is almost like listening to worldly music. when u start getting into it, its gonna be hard to get back off, and the harder part is.... you get attached :D well maybe somepeople would be able to handle it, but not everyone.. so yeah if you're not sure...

Pray and read God's Word hehe, seek Him first, and after that, ask yourself if you still want to read that book again :D (Im absolutely sure that if you focus yourself on God, you will lose interest in things that looked good, but is suspiscious inside lol cause all you can think of is Him! )

hey guys i have been thinking a lot and thank you for supporting me :)

I gave up reading twilight. I actually finished reading the first book and got half way through the second book and decided if i didn't stop now i probbaly wouldn't
So I got ride of it.

It wasn't helping me with my walk with God at all so it is best not to be done.

I would suggest picking up the "Chronicle of Brothers" series by Wendy Alec. It's basically christian fiction based on the fall of satan and how both heaven and earth have been effected. The Archangels Micheal and Gabriel play predominant roles, one in the heavens and one on earth as it pertains to engaging Lucifer and minions in battle on both the physical and spiritual plains of existence.

The first two installments of the series, "The Fall of Lucifer" and "Messiah - The First Judgment" are currently on sale for $19.99 for both over at the God.tv website.
