Have you been talking to someone who attends the church of Christ? :p
I was wondering what the inspiration for this thread was.

Does the church of Christ teach that modern day forms of communication are evil?

There motto is, "we speak where the Bible speaks and we are silent where the Bible is silent." This has led them to reject musical instruments in church because they don't see where musical instruments are mentioned in the NT.

Since the New Testament doesn't specifically allow for using satellites and radio repeaters (much less telephones and walkie talkies) to spread the gospel.....is it a sin to use the radio and whatnot to teaach the bible? Would the proper way be to walk or swim to the locale in which you wanted to spread the gospel?
Seeing how the heavens themselves declare the glory of God, I cannot imagine that God would be opposed to communicating the gospel via the air waves:

Psalm 19 verses 1 thru 6

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

I'm familiar with their beliefs regarding musical instruments, but I was really wondering if they're opposed to modern day forms of communication either in general or specifically in relation to the spreading of the gospel.

Not sure if their same logic applies to using modern day forms of communication to spread the gospel.

No, they embrace technology outside of the church building/service. And, oddly enough, technological advances inside the church building/service, with the exception of musical instruments. I've done some extensive research and can not find where in the NT Air Conditioning/Hot and Cold Water/Flushing Toilets/Electrical Lighting and such are mentioned........

i can't find anywhere in the New Testament where smoke signals are specifically authorized.

does that mean we are limited to word-of-mouth and handwritten epistles carried by fellow believers on foot, on boat (without motors, of course) or on donkey/horse?
What about papyrus airplanes? You gotta fold em just right tho.

Posts regularly carried messages in the Old Testament and they're the forerunners, no pun intended, for our modern day Post Offices.

Smoke signals were used in the Bible, too:

Judges chapter 20 verse 38

Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
Ya but thats in the old testament. If it isn't mentioned in the new we are not allowed to use it.

I guess that marriage ought to be avoided as well then. After all, that began in the Old Testament book of Genesis.

Thank God for flushing toilets. Just reading about dunghills in the Bible is enough for me. I'd personally rather not encounter one.

itchy crabby people sitting in a hot non air conditioned building could be a recipe for disaster.

I believe that it is proper to only use papyrus for such purposes.
