This is not a rhetorical question. We as Christians have a guide as to how to live our daily lives, but can we live that way 24/7?

So, what actually is a "sinful lifestyle?"

Keep in mind there are sins of omission as well as commission.

Thanks,

My guess is when we want to sin.

If we do what we hate, its not a sinful style, I think. It just means we are weak.

Well, we know that murder, adultery are major sins we are not to practice. The consequences of these sins can live with one forever and even hurt generations to come. And all sin is bad in God's eyes. But whenever I hear people say so and so is living a "sinful" lifestyle, yet they are not committing these sins, then what is their sinful lifestyle?

Can we develop some habit which may displease God or hurt our witness?

I don't know. I'm just curious as to what you all think consists of a sinful lifestyle.

That is what is the Lord hates KJVGalatians5:19-21 19. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21.Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Php 2:13

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
KJV

When we decide to do what pleases us, in disregard of the Spirit's leading, all or most of the time; we are living a sinful lifestyle.

Our obedience results not from our own effort but from the Holy Spirit's empowerment.

When we ignore the Holy Spirit's direction and reject His empowerment we live a sinful lifestyle.

When saved people do this they bring upon themselves God's chastening or are called out of this world early.

So according to scripture, envy, hatred, idolatry are as well signs of sinful living as much as adultery and murder?

Another part of my OP was can we Christians say that we go each day without any of the sinful lifestyle?

I think it is just doing things that we know God doesn't agree with or want us to do...If we feel conviction then it is more than likely a sin.

Like another poster mentioned, scripture does give us a list of some things but I don't think that is an all inclusive list.

We all have different trials and temptations in this life so there may be somethings that I cannot do because it may lead me to sin, but others may be able to do those things without it leading them to sin.

Yes, this is spot on. We all know the obvious sins which God hates but as you said, there may be other sins (omission) that are not so obvious.

This is not a rhetorical question.
Sure sounds like a rhetorical question, since you can go from Genesis to Revelation and discover all the ways that a sinful lifestyle manifests itself. The more profitable question would be "What constitutes a righteous lifestyle?"

Thanks,

do people believe God answers prayer?

" Lord please take my sin away according to your word, and being to me the righteousness promised, give me repentance Lord that I may follow your word each day, im tired of my sin Lord, bring me to life"

if our prayers were purposed towards seeking the Kingdom and His righteousness, reoenting of sin and actually living right wouldnt seem so far fetched and be such an issue. repentance is something all of us need, and obedience is something all of us need. are we perfect ? naw, but Jesus provides for that in His doctrine " forgive and you will be forgiven" be merciful and you will receive mercy" it seems more just than the Law to be honest, all i have to do to have the promise of forgiveness, is forgive those who sin against me.

who really deserves forgiveness? but those who are willing to forgive. who really deserves mercy? but those who are merciful. we dont have to be perfect 24-7 and if we mess up were done. we just have to obey Jesus as if Hes the Lord, its not a suprise to Him were less than perfect, thats why its so simple " forgive and be forgiven" " Love one another with action and in truth" Love covers a multitude of sins......

prayer prayer prayer works things not accomplished on our own. i think its the desire to repent that we need to find, frankly some like living in sin, i used to, gotta find the word in order to see it for what it is

james 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

if a person Knows what they are doing is not right, or if they Know whats right and then refise to do it....to that person it is sin.

I like this answer, to a point. But is it not correct that true believers may catch themselves in a sin, but they don't stay in it, making it a lifestyle?

I have to explain: I was in a form of Arminianism -- a form most Arminians reject soundly -- for more than 5 decades and only accepted Reformed within the last few years. I am still trying to understand all the Reformed nuances.

You are correct. This thread is not for edification.

Well that's going from the frying pan into the fire. And those are not the only two options on the table. Why don't you simply study the Bible and believe what it says without interpreting it through either of those lenses?

Every failure in a Christian life is cause by us resulting to the flesh and trying to do what's needs to be done by the means of the flesh which is guaranteed to fail. The Apostle Paul makes it crystal clear that those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Most Christians don't see it as the flesh when they are in the flesh.

We must enter into sanctification where the deeds of the flesh is mortified by the Holy Spirit. Failure to do so the sin nature is reactivated (The Law of Sin and Death) and Grace is frustrated.

Hee-hee-hee! Well, I guess we are all entitled to our opinions. :)
Just so that you will know, I do study my Bible for the Bible with the idea of understanding of what it intends. :) Doing so, it is my duty to learn Truth, and that is my prerogative above all else. This is why I am still questioning. :)

I think it is as state of mind, not so much what sins, People can live without committing the “big sins” and still live a sinful lifestyle

Does the Bible really teach us that any form of sin is something we are helpless over, or something that is a choice?

Before going into detail let me say this so the children and young men wont get the wrong idea about what I post below. I am not sinless or perfect and never will be, I still sin, but that said, I am no longer a sinner, but a sin-forgiven saint and sin does not have dominion over me in certain areas. I am still pressing toward the mark, I am renewing my mind, I will only be sinless perfection when I put on immortality, but Sin does not have dominion over me and it is a choice not an action or thought, just as the Bible teaches. With that out of the way, here are some thoughts.

Eve and then Adam made a choice in Gen 3:6

[SUP]6 [/SUP]When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Cain made a choice in Gen 4:6-7
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? [SUP]7 [/SUP]If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.

John 8:1-8-
Jesus gave the woman brought to him her choice back regarding sin

Romans 6 says we are risen into newness of life as sin-forgiven saints, that will still sin, but no longer a sinner[this is a condition Christ corrected] either you are a new man or you are not, light cannot exist or fellowship with darkness.

Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, [SUP]2 [/SUP]fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We have victory over sin through the power of the Holy Spirit and empowering grace, that is our teacher
Titus 2:11-12
[SUP]11 [/SUP]For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, [SUP]12 [/SUP]instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age

We have victory over sin because are partakers of the divine nature.
2 Peter 1:1-11

Sin defined in the Bible
Romans 14:23
[SUP]23 [/SUP]But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.

James 4:17
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Sin cycle defined in the Bible
James 1:13-16
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. [SUP]14 [/SUP]But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

SIN is willfully doing something the Holy Spirit said not to do.

A sinful lifestyle is a mind that is set on the flesh or that is carnal and therefore hostile to God and will lead to death.

If you are suggesting that a Saved person should be praying for sin to be removed, then this is a false teaching. Only the shed blood of Jesus removed Sin.

That's very good. Not to digress but the bottom line is that Christ died for the sins of the whole world, and God will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the Truth. Also those who are saved are eternally secure, but God elects none for either salvation or damnation. Election and predestination are for the perfection and glorification of the saints.
