we need MORE fully equipped pastors who know the Scripture and teach it - who know hebrew and greek and history and church history and make it their life's calling.
MORE not fewer.

not these diploma mill televangelists and parachurch groups.
real pastors in real churches.
I agree. But are seminaries suppose to be teaching a divorced female adulteress witch, who believes the Bible is an allegory, and believes that homosexuality is perfectly OK and shows no signs at all that she even knows the Lord? (Yes I do know one who is being trained to be a pastor)

those would be cemetaries, not seminaries:)
honestly i don't know what to do about all that.

except that what we have going for us is as you've done, we can SEE who is going for ordination and accept or not.
we can look at SoFs and stuff.

it's the oh-it's-just-us-and-our-leader-it's-all-okay-come-over-for-bible-study stuff i want nothing to do with.
you go and end up finding out the person has a closet full of Emanuel Swedenborg or something.

eh......

i'd rather have an institution which is somewhat open to investigation....than be drawn to an abandoned warehouse or a barn and told whatever happens there is biblical.

i've been through that already. got the t-shirt.

That's why we are to know the scriptures also so we do not be led astray. Any time you have a leader saying it's us alone it puts one in a very bad place.

Do you believe the bible is best interpreted by the individual and his/her reading of it?

or is the bible better understood by people who have university degrees in biblical studies or Theology?

I know there is a few areas of specialisation like: Theology, Biblical studies and Ministry.

so does someone who went to University, studied the ancient languages and stuff have a better understanding of the bible?

Does it matter, once you've accepted Christ as your saviour?

(I know lots of questions)
John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.John 16:13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

As you can clearly see, we have the best teacher available. The Word of God does not need to be intellectualized. If we are baptized in the Spirit, the Spirit will teach us all we need to know, and show us the future.

As a catholic when I look for the interpretation of a passage I look for an answer that has been approved by the church they would have a NIHIL OBSTAT or IMPRIMATUR with contact information to verify the person.

Why do I do this? Because I do not claim infallibility. I have had many people tell me I only need the Holy Spirit to guide me, but this believe has so many different truths out there, I simply can not afford to be wrong, I am not a gambler.
The truth is simple; "Be Good"
Love covers all the comandments
It's All About Love!

I had to learn to read the Bible with the Holy Spirit and a church youth pastor, as its so confusing when i frist became a true born again Christian. If you pray and mediate on His Word then He reveals revelations to you. Christ warns us to compare everything spoken in the church to the scriptures and bring it before God. To believe everything a human (Pastor, theologn etc) interpreted as fact is ignorant...so we learn from those who've trained and intensely studied scripture as they have likely gained alot of insight by their own revelations but test it against God's written Word IN CONTEXT!!!!
Somethings the different churches say are ok but the Bible does not...
For instance
- judging or not openly (with actions) LOVING EVERYONE (murders, Transvestites etc) as if they are worse sinners than us- James 2:8-13
- having staues of Mary and praying to her (worship), would biblicallly be considered idolatry- Exodus 20:3-4 & Leviticus 26:1
Anyways those are my thoughts, Id like to hear if you agree or disagree and why :)

I am not clear really what you are trying to say. The Bible is clear we are to study the Word of God. The Relationship with Christ is the beginning, Church is there for the equipping of the saints. Traditional or ritual practices can be judge by the scriptures amen and should.

The Love you are talking about I am not sure how you mean it? But Gods' love is not Open acceptance of the actions at all. That is Clear in His Word. Loving those who do such things is too telling them it is a sin and offends God. Just Like a Mother or father who corrects their child.

Paul is pretty clear in his writings about how we shouldn't put much trust in mans wisdom which I believe most people get when theygo to a college or university because they run the risk of getting many different interpretations of scripture from each person they learn from. Not saying its wrong to do, I just have no interest in it myself. I believe bible can teach better than any man. Paul said he came not with enticing words of mans wisdom and came not with excellency of speech, but in demonstration and power. If you study thoroughly you will see that most of the "true" men of God in the bible were taught by or instructed under one man for a period of time. Also when Jesus sent his disciples he sent them by 2. I think God likes pairs. When we want to become teachers it says we are to have ONE teach us again...not many.

Only ONE WAY is best..... Jesus said how.... When HE REVEALS IT TO WHOM HE WANTS! It is a gift of God in 1 Cor 12... Knowledge!! Who knows this knowledge.... Did God not say THOU SHALT KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE!... So I gues all who knows the Truth also has the KNOWLEDGE!

Only ONE gives that KNOWLEDGE.... God! So no school or private interpretaion will get nobody even close! God has to give it... And HE DOES!

Excellant Cobus. Certainly, the Spirit of Truth reveals Truth.

Agree and disagree, You talk about love murderers prostitutes and so on I agree but then finish with a false witness to catholics. We do not worship the blessed virgin Mary. There is a tread on this already no need to discus that here.

We should study the word daily.

- Pray!!!
- Read a small section and get the point i.e. the last supper
- Read again, but take your time. If a word/sentence or what ever it is that stands out to you focus on that.
- Meditate on that which spoke to you
- Pay Again!!!
- Contemplate
