I am just looking for some clarification on this, not a deabte :)

In the user profile page it asks when you were saved and many people posting here often refer to themselves as 'saved' and others as 'unsaved', sometimes they do this even when talking about other christians who by thought, word or deed seem to have demonstrated to them that they aren't living as what a true christian should according to their own views.

I put the question to each person, what do you mean when you say you are 'saved'?

Is it just that you feel delivered from struggles from your past such as an addiction or a damaging attitude i.e. chavinism and that now you are saved from a self-destructive life?

or

Is it that you feel you have earned your way into heaven and now cannot fall short of that because no matter what you do wrong you know as a true believer you will be forgiven your sins?

I don't remember whose it was but I was reading a user profile here a few days ago and in that section of their profile they wrote that they will be saved they day they enter heaven and until then they are just making their way forward in life, or something like that, and I thought that was the most appropriate, and impressive answer I have ever read.....mainly because I think it is a dagerous step on the road to arrogance to presume you are saved and into the Kingdom of Heaven while still a mortal, a dangerous thing to presume even if you are correct.

Just want to hear some thoughts on this :)

I am Born again of the Spirit, adopted as a child and an heir with Christ, for the glory of Gods name, not by any good that I have done but by Gods good grace. I have been saved, being saved and will be saved.

The chief end of man is to glorify God... through Gods salvation and all through redemptive History He has saved a people for Himself to be His people in a saving relationship to the glory of His name.

Many people fool themselves in thinking they are Christians, this is sad.

To me , to be saved means that I have given my life to Christ. I did not choose this for myself but He chose me. I serve Him now out of my devotion to Him. He has forgiven my sins by His shed blood. Not because of anything that I did to earn His forgiven but because I was unworthy, He loved me and gave His life for me. This I believe and because I believe, I have been promised eternal life.

In Christ

How do you know you are saved? According to Jesus, there will be many who think they are but aren't. Perhaps putting 'unsure' is a more honest response.

If a person comes before God in sincere repentance and asks for their sins to be forgiven, and accepts Jesus into their life as Lord and Saviour, they are saved.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves it is the gift of God-not by works so that no-one casn boast. Eph2:8

No-one can earn their way to Heaven, it is a free gift of God.

Upon asking Jesus into your life and becoming saved that does not mean all the addictions and sin from your past life will immediately vanish. Much probably will but not all, nevertheless you are saved and seen as perfect in God's eyes in the spiritual sense because you are covered by the blood of Jesus who died for you.
I read a very good book by Spurgeon 'All of Grace.' He speaks of people who have come to God but in themselves are broken, crushed by their previous life of sin. There is a struggle for the newly saved person and addictions to overcome, but he says this is done by trusting in Jesus to deliver us from these things. Nevertheless you are saved, he says it is the outworking of your salvation that is then taking place

thru HIS conviction,i sincerely repent for my sins and accepted JESUS CHRIST as my LORD and SAVIOR. being saved doesn't mean that we are perfect but JESUS said we must try to be whole..only JESUS is perfect,so we must look unto JESUS as our model and not church leader.we are just human who have weaknesses and GOD is 'just' to forgives us.but it doesn't mean we will keep on sinning....

I agree. There is a fine line here that needs to be understood and explained. By living by faith in Christ, that does not mean we just sin regardless and it does not matter, but it does mean that upon a sincere conversion such faith will bring results that see victory over sin.
If we say we live by faith in Christ, and do not see the results of that in a life that brings victory over sin(it does take time) then we should question if we are really committed to God and desire to be free of our sin.

You are saved if you obey the truth and allow the Spirit to lead you.You are saved at that moment and the Bible says that the kingdom of God is within you.If the kingdom of God is within you when you have the Spirit while on earth then you are saved while on earth because you already have the kingdom of God in you and belong to the kingdom of God while on earth.

But you have to be lead of the Spirit to be saved and a lot of people who claim to be Christian do not do that or because they obey traditions of men think they have the Spirit when they do not.

As far as someone being saved they should take heed lest they fall. That means be on your guard and the Bible says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall(1 Corinthians 10:12).

Let him that thinks that he is alright and he will be saved and cannot lose salvation take heed lest he fall and lose out on salvation.

That is because some people who think that they cannot lose salvation get relaxed in their walk with God and end up losing salvation because they think they cannot fall.

Saying Jesus Christ is Lord. He was born of a virgin. He died on the cross. 3 days later he rose. I asked to be forgiven of my sins. This is to be done till the day I die. Being in a fallen body. Knowing I am washed in the blood of Jesus from head to toe. When the Father looks at me he sees Jesus. Being Baptized in much water. Going on to obey God. Making much fruit.

I can appreciate why you like that answer.

I believe that salvation must first be viewed from the perspective of Christ's faithful promises, because on the flip side of man's arrogant presumption is man's arrogant unwillingness to believe what God has said is true.

  1. He who believes and is baptized will be saved
  2. believe and be saved
  3. But he who endures to the end shall be saved
  4. whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life
  5. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent
  6. revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality

My conclusion: I am saved and I am being saved.
