G-d does not say love your parents, He does not say respect them, like them, or even be a "good" to them but honor them? What does G-d mean by honor?

Would you like to rephrase your question after reading this?:
Then he said, “You skillfully sidestep God’s law in order to hold on to your own tradition. For instance, Moses gave you this law from God: ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’ In this way, you let them disregard their needy parents. And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others.”

Ok, let's pretend oral tradition is "the word of G-d".... any Messianic knows it's not... But of GREAT VALUE!!!!! Maybe another topic, which will be a lot of fun if you are Messianic....

How does G-d define honor? Yes He said to honor your parents, but He also said to honor Him and He will honor you... So what does G-d mean by honor?

Here is what the Wycliffe Bible Dictionary a.k.a. (Wycliffe Bible Encyclopida) says, "Honor is the high respect or esteem shown to or received from another person, or a demonstration of such respect. The concept is expressed figuratively in the OT by words which are also translated beauty, majesty, brilliancy, preciousness, weight, and glory. The parallels are significant: glory and honor (I Chr 16:27; Ps 8:5); honor and majesty (Ps 21:5; 96:6; 104:1); honor and dignity (Est 6:3); gifts and rewards and great honor (Dan 2:6); riches and honor (I Kgs 3:13). Thus the concept is involved in worship (q.v), which is worth-ship, recognition of worth."

From, "The Expanded Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words." A. Nouns. TIMĒ, primary a valuing, hence, objectively, (a) a price paid or receieved.

DOXA, gloryis translated honor.

B. Verb. TIMAŌ, to honor, is used of (a) valuing Christ at a price. (b) honoring a person:the honor done by Christ to the Father.

DOXAZŌ, to glory, is rendered "honor" in reference to the members of the body.

Thank you! I don't want anything to do with my mother. Something happened, it does not matter what. Inside I love her, I will not speak bad of her and when she is too old to take care of herself I will be there. But I told here I was done, she is no longer my mother. It did not come lightly. That was a weak and 3 days ago. And then Torah!!! I have not stopped thinking about G-d. I wish I could, maybe..... I love her... she cut to the quick... not me but me son.... and My flesh want to be done forever.... But that cannot be because when she needs me I will come running!!!! I just don't want her to be my MOTHER!!!! I want a mommy who doesn't reject me or my son.... It's not my son's fault I am a bastard.... the half-bread that screwed up her life because G-d chose to conceive me. .... What ever.... I just need to obey G-d and maybe things will work out with my mom....

I am seeking G-d... I thought for some silly reason people might know the the REAL HIM and could be a witness....

Thank you for your input... I am looking it up.....

God may not have but Jesus sure did he said "love thy neighbour as yourself" which means everyone in general not just those who have helped you in this walk of life.

Sister my ex-wife had some extremely horrable things happen to her by her moms husband and when it came to light all her mom said was what do you want me to do? I cannot believe that a mother could even say that after knowing what her husband had done to her 12 year old daughter, let alone if it was a full grown women, I just do not get it. She ended up in the foster care program which was horrable. Here foster mother got her a fake birth certificate and pimped her out to a ranch in Nevada at the age of 15.

She still wanted a relationship with her mother and I did not understand it, homoring and trusting are two different things. You can honor them but you do not have to trust them ot allow them to be in your life especally when they are not believers in Christ.

I love you in Messiah, in fact I look forward to reading all you have to say. But I am towaren into pieces. If G-d's Word did not plage me I would walk away... I walk from everything. But, He SCREAMS LOUD!!!! And I am at a loss. What is honor? He did not say love, He did not say respect, He did not say pray for.... I love her, She is human .... who can speak against being human... I fall short of the glory of G-d... I even told her I would pray for her when I told her she is no longer my mother.... What is Honor to G-d?

G-d said if you honor Me I will honor you.... So it is something ... Not love, not obedience, what is it? .... I NEED TO KNOW!!! I WILL FIND OUT WHAT G-D WANTS BUT I HOPE SOMEONE CAN POINT ME TO THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!

God does not see you as a bastard or a half breed, you are no mistake! You were made on purpose by God and He loves you and has plans for you.

Ex 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
KJV

Honour כַּבֵ֥ד means regard as weighty or important. The word is closely related to כָּבֹד, which means glory.

The word seems to mean to assign a high priority to.

We live in a society that tells us our parents are to blame for our problems. We pick out the 1% flaws they have and blow them up into a 100% of what makes them ignoring the 99% good of them. What if God treated us as if we had no redeeming value. Just a worthless piece of crap? How you treat your parents is how you treat God. That's why they come after God in the 10 Commandments.

When God said to honor your parents, He has a reason. Our parents are our biggest influence in this life since they brought us into this world and raise us to become adults. They also have the power to nurture or to abuse depending on how they were raised. So maybe the meaning of honor your parents is to thank them for a good job or to forgive them for being abusive.

A honor according to my understanding is a standardized weight used in a balance scale (the honor weight.)It comes in various amounts.

Its that B word Balance.

When used to describe parents it is simply saying give them a little weight in ones decision making. Most have been through hell and have learned that youth and vigor will be meaniless on the day of judgement.

Like Solomon said in Ecclesiastics. Remember, which is to act in accordance to the Creator, giving those who have gone before a little weight .It can reduce the suffering for doing wrong. Suffering for doing right is like taking a short cut. When yoked with Christ he makes it easier..

Ecc 11:10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
Ecc 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

To me God told me to honor my dad in various ways though for I time I had a hard time even respecting him.

First God told me to honor him by acknowledge his part in my own life.

For your mom it would be giving birth to you. Maybe feeding and clothing and housing you?

Honor does not mean you agree with everything they say or obey them as you would God.

However it does mean to listen when they speak and pray for their well-being.

It also means to have boundaries between where you and they end and start...., you aren't responsible for their happiness and they aren't responsible for yours. You each must find things and people who fulfill your life with joy.

You are mad at your mom because you feel like she disrespects you and your son and unjustly takes her anger. About her life on you?

I agree it sounds unreasonable. Its not your fault and she does need to own up to her part in choosing to have sex and have a baby. Maybe we can pray and she realizes she shouldn't use you and your son as a scapegoat.

However, God wants us to focus on ourselves and he tells us to not let the sun set on our anger.

Yes be angry but also forgive and give it to God.

Unforgiveneas is NOT honoring God because remember all the things God forgave you for?

So perhap pray and ask God to help you forgive and how to set boundaries in your interactions with your mom so she doesn't devastate or make you so angry?
