When the pastor is really delivering a strong teaching and the words being spoken move you to say "amen", when you hear a something encouraging "amen to that", lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen.
Is the word amen just a word we speak that lets other christians know we are in tune with what they said, is it a formal word at the end of prayer to signify that, ok thats all. Is it a word used to encourage the pastor and to let him know that you really got the message he preached?

I believe that the word amen is short for us really saying, May it be so in accordance to gods will. It is also a direct reference to jesus who in revelation 3:14 is referred to as the amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of gods creation.

Before i was instructed on what the word amen really meant i was one of those people that thought it was just something a christian said and it didn't carry much meaning. Now when i say the word amen i find that is more than a sign off at the end of prayer, but really saying that may my prayer be in accordance with gods will, and that my life lies with him that is in control of all things.

If the word amen has more meaning to you or if you would just like to share some thoughts on this please do so, as i look forward to responses that anyone would have.

I agree, I take Amen to mean "so be it".

I just finished reading the new Dan Brown book, and he says "Amen" is a reference to an ancient Egyptian god. That Dan Brown is full of surprises =P.

Amen = THAT'S RIGHT,

IT CAN ALSO BE A CLOSING STATEMENT SUCH AS WHEN WE PRAY, Amen

Depending on your preferred translation you will notice such expressions as Verily, verily or Truly, truly. That is a double use of the term Amen.

Do you say that because the words are the same ones in the greek? Just wondering.

Pastor Keith, Jesus said I am the true and faithful that's right?

2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
