So these are just some notes I wrote down, after praying and asking God to show me what it truly means to be still and know that He IS God. I did this because a friend asked me what it means, and I wasn't totally lost on answering them, but wasn't totally 100% able to answer. I thought I best seek God on this one, and make sure of things, I can't just tell them things, I must know for myself or I'll seem like a hypocrite or something. So anyhow, here's what I got.Oh the one's that say ''I'' are ones that I myself do. Maybe this will help someone somewhere out there. God bless!

What does it mean to truly be still and know He is God?
-I must totally surrender to Him

-I fully acknowledge Him as LORD

-I have and must constantly have and keep my reverence for Him.

-I give Him my all.(mind, heart, spirit, soul, thoughts, feelings, and all that I have and am, even down to the smallest micro-fiber and particle of me.)

-I do and must always seek Him, as well as thirst, hunger, trust, work for, and obey Him.

-I fully acknowledge that I am nothing on my own, can do nothing on my own, and that if I didn't have Him, I would have nothing, but I have EVERYTHING, since I DO have Him.

-It's not about me or what I do at all, it's all about Him, what He did, does, and will do in the days to come.

-When I'm alone, it's just God and myself, He speaks and listens as well. He's all around, placing angels of protection round about me, and taking me to a secret place. One where He hides me from the things of this old world. I pour out all of me, an and all things to Him, laying them down, casting them upon Him, and into a sea of forgetfulness. Where the waves wash them all away, as God works.

-I do my best to be and remain faithful and humble before my Lord, to have no self-pride.

-Worship God in spirit and in truth, which is His word alone. Nothing else is truer.

-I know He's God ALMIGHTY.

-Honesty and confession of all wrongs.

-Rely on God alone.

-I have given up the fight against Satan, the darkness, etc. of the world. It does nothing but make me tired, torn, worn, and more. I allow God to fight for me, my victory is IN CHRIST JESUS!

-I know I'm nothing but a sinner saved by grace, but I'm a child of and worth everything to God.

-I must ask Him to show me my errs, and allow Him to work in me to fix them.

-I must keep seeking, until I find whatever it is I need, never giving up, and giving it and God my all.
Even when I'm tired, and may have to force myself. I shall confess Him as my strength, and ask Him to work and keep me going.

-Feeling, accepting, and welcoming the Holy Spirit, and the power thereof.

-Resting in total peace and comfort of the Lord, being silent, just listening, and waiting to hear God speak, and feel Him move within me.

-Thinking on and applying what i know of God's word, to this life.

-Being one with the Lord, in prayer, worship, reading His word, music, whatever, whenever, however, and with whomever, may or may not be around.

-Go and be alone, relax, just enjoy the peace and quiet. Don't worry or think about a thing, other than focusing on God, just sit or lay still, listen to His small, still, powerful voice. As ''thoughts cross the mind'', memorize or jot them down...that's God SPEAKING too you!

-Drown our any and all background noise that may be, or is around. Forget about everything that's going on around you, tell others you need to be alone with God, to please excuse you, and not bother you until you come back around them. It's one of those ''let me come to you, don't come to me'' situations...sort of like ''don't call us, we'll call you'' thing.

-Repent of sins that are holding you back from growing and maturing in Christ. Truly repent, which means to completely turn away from, and give up/ let go of it...once and for all.

-Totally let go of and forget about self-reliance, lean not on your own understanding, strength, or anything else. Accept that God is your everything, allow Him to be your strength, and rely on Him alone.

They're all very good points. I personally read it to mean, literally, sit still in God's presence meditate upon Him and His word and to experience His divine presence. I don't do enough of it and I heard somewhere that the average church pastor only has enough time to spend about 5 minutes a day in prayer with God! Contemplative prayer was a very important part of Jesus's life and the apostles.

But we should also mention the original intent and context of the verse is God is God telling his enemies to stop fighting against Him as it is useless to strive against Him - He is God. It's one of those verses that can take double meaning. For God's enemies it is a frightening thought to know He is God, for Christians, hopefully we already know that He is God and so the idea to be still and know Him can mean to take time out from our busy lives and focus on God who is the most important.

One of the greatest attractions to monasticism that I have is contemplative prayer...

I can't begin to explain the peace of sitting with so many people in silence, waiting on the Lord...opening our mouths only to speak the words of God in psalms, then, more silence as we listen. Still. Ever so still.

*floats off into contemplative dream land*

I went on a contemplative prayer retreat once where we delved into the Christian Mystic practice of mediation (similar to Zen Buddhist meditation), and it was the most difficult thing I've ever done. "Be still and know that I am God" is at the heart of meditation, and it means to be completely calm, completely at peace in God's presence. The mystics teach that it involves freeing your mind from the distractions of the world and dwelling completely (and consciously) in the presence of God. It's probably the most difficult thing I've tried to do.

Thankyou for this post. I am one of those that is rarely still, not just in action but in thought, word, even in sleep Im busy. I have loved this word that God gave us so much. With his help he has shown me how to be still. It is a total giving over of myself to Our Lord God. Not even thought. Then you let God direct all in you. By this you see his greatness, his Glory, his peace, his work, the quietness he gives. Knowing all that I am rests in him and becomes by his will. I think that be still and know that I am God, is one of the most powerful words in the bible. I try to live these words everyday. God bless, pickles
