The Word tells us about love all over the bible, my favorite is found in 1 Corintians 13, from the message bible:Love never gives up, Love cares more for others than for self, Love doesn't want what it doesn't have, Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, Doesn't force itself on others, Isn't always, me first, Doesn't fly off the handle, Doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end........I think about these words, how awesome our lives would be if we all could have this kind of love within us, towards not only our family and friends but also to everyone we meet, do all things with love.....

WHAT IS LOVE?!
BABY DONT HURT ME,
DONT HURT ME,
NO MORE....:D

Ha Ha, just kidding. I like the description of love as "charity", God's kind of love. The word "love" in the Greek is "agape"(ah-gah-pay), which means charity. And when I think of charity, I think of giving to someone in need without expecting anything in return. Thats my idea of love.

Love is really important, its something everyone wants and needs, so many different places in the bible it talks about love, love one another, love your neighbor as yourself, to me, God is love, it is totally impossible to please God if you have no love for your neighbor, if you love one another then we are doing what the Lord comanded us to do, this is my comandment that you love one another as I have loved you.........

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Cor. 13: 4-7

Bible says God is Love.
If u can have God in your heart You got love.
But who is God?
bible says in the begining was the word
The Word was God
And the Word became fresh and dwelt among us"
and Jesus said
"if you do not eat of my fresh and drink my blood you have no life in you"
I believe having God (the Word) in you you can have all that you have explained.

Hmm. ive been thinking about this one.
God=Love
Love=Does not envy, is not easily angered
God= Is a jealous and vengeful god (Nahum 1.2)

It doesn't add up to me. Any1 got a good explanation?

Dear friend, here is the way I see it, if we, do as the Word tells us to do, if we will follow the teachings of Jesus, if we walk in the spirit, and do all the things He commands us to do, then we will not have to worry about God being a jealous God, I personally feel this scripture you posted in Nahum is saying that sometimes God has to get our attention, I feel his revenge is towards the ones who have rejected him, its quite clear that there is a place for those who turn their backs on God, I kinda look at it from a parents point of view, although I am a very nice person, kind, friendly, etc. if someone is threatening my children I could become a bear, hope this makes sense......do all things with love.......

In reply to WKK...

We as faulteredimages of God have a dichotomy in our selves...We have things we naturally or personally love (by love I mean preferences from Oreos to characteristics in people, that entergize us) and as Christian's the Lord gives us his love even as he commands us to love as He first loved us (the deepest love possible that extinguishes and makes as if not all other shallow forms of love to those who the Lord blesses with).

Now, for your question on God being love, and also being jeolous you have to look at how we understand things...for your mind is crossing a dichotomy...here is an analogy--a boy believes he loves a certain girl and another boy also loves a certain girl, the girl loves the second but is indifferent to the first...the first may feel slighted or hurt by the fact that she chose the second over him (a bad type of jeolosy that the Bible tells us was never love to begin with)...or he may be simply hurt because he may see the second boy lead her faith astray and into the deceptions od the world ( a jeolousy for holiness if you will!)...

Anyway God is jeoulous for our holiness and this is considered love...even as Christian parents want their kids to be holy; but the human response of being jeoulous over someone having someone or something that you want (position, item, future, anything) is always evil.

Holy jeoulosy or Biblical love shows itself in this: that it rejoices in the exaltation of others; while evil jeoulosy brings darkness and a feeling of sickness that "I deserve such and such' or 'It should be mine'--I am reminded of JRR Tolkein's Smeegal for some reason; I think JRR Tolkein used him to depict the cancers of almost every vice....

Hope this helps, God bless now and always.

"And when I think of charity, I think of giving to someone in need without expecting anything in return. Thats my idea of love."

Well when i see that there's no love on a person, i can love her enough, to be wanting to help her on gain that love(show her that there's pro's on having love for others), but if she is not willing to show love for me, i will not expect to be friends with her, so the less love i'll have for that person.
Love is a feeling, and there's degrees to that feeling.
if i love so much a person then i can pass anything if there is not love enough i won't. God's love is not to charity as it is the greek definition of love, we can put up with anything by caring, by having will to put up with anythin just like Jesus did in the cross because of that same caring for us.
just to show you the degrees of love, i cannot love the Devil if in GOd's eyes he does not love us period.
so if there's no shred of love why should i have love towards that person? as for him as for anybody else who prooves to be like him.

So Love is a two way feeling.
For me at least

Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so.. No greater lover hath a man then this.. To lay down his life for a friend. I know it is not quoted exactly right but you get the drift. Jesus is love.. He laid down his life for each and everyone of us, that we might live forever.

There are three Greek terms translated as love in the NT.

1. agape = benevolent concern for others
2. storge = natural affection for family
3. phileo = affection for friends

well, then benevolent concern for others does not mean love without any condition.
it's complicated this subject but fort now there's only one condition for me to give love. it's to recieve love back too.
but i might repent of that cause for Jesus, endured everything even forgave the one's who killed him.
the proof of this is i na a verse that goes like this: Father forgive them, for they do not now what they do.(something like this)
