The end of days is a common theme in all religions, and in all times for all people, everywhere. It's no surprise that it is addressed in the Bible. I think it's just a natural fear for us to have. And maybe even a legitimate one. But I don't think that we need to worry too much... after all if we're gonna become extinct, it makes more sense to focus on solutions or just let it happen rather than point to the Bible and say "I told you so." After all, the Bible is not the only source that has told us so.

The Bible being my absolute as a christian i can refer only to the scriptures to know the revelation of the last days.
Jesus Himself being God spoke of the end times in His sermon and one of the most remakable one is when he told them how they will desire to see one of the days of the son of man.

St Luke 17: 20- 30
¶ And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see [it].
23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after [them], nor follow [them].
24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one [part] under heaven, shineth unto the other [part] under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

When the world will be in sodom condition the son of man will be revealed making the end of times as also declared in Rev 10:1-7

But the Bible is the only source that tells us that the "last days" is not the literal end but a new beginning. If you read the entire Revelation account, Mankind is not completely wiped out. In fact, mankind will live on to take part in the 1000 year Kingdom of Christ here on Earth. Those of us living in this era who are found to be "good and faithful servants" (those ressurected) will actually serve as representatives of Christ's government thus the many biblical references that the redeemed will receive crowns and share in Christ's throne.
