Lets get this topic going. WHO Are the 24 Elders mentioned in the book of Revelation?

My guess is the Apostles and the tribes of Israel patriarchs. Based on nothing.

Anyone got something more credible than me?

No one can know for sure....we can surmise, guess, argue etc....but at the end of the day no one can accurately say who they are.......IMO

Here is a thought for you all to ponder.

Could it be ELDERS of the Church-Age, specifically, that EACH generation has an ELDER that was the most influential during His Generation? I think we are in the 24th Generation since the Church began, right Now. If we were to vote, I would say BILLY GRAHAM would be our ELDER.

Since they are simply identified as 24 elders, we should not speculate any further. They are definitely not apostles, but more than likely elders who served God and Christ faithfully on earth and were given the privilege to surround the throne of God.

Since the number 12 represents God's government( with the 12 apostles receiving 12 thrones, in order to govern the 12 tribes of Israel, under Christ in the future), the number 24 probably represents excellence in God's government.

Hello again!

This is my consideration regarding this issue . In Rev.21:12 and 14, we are told that the names of the twelve tribes of Israel are written on each of the gates each made of a single pearl for the New Jerusalem, with the names of the twelve apostles written on each of the twelve foundations of the wall, which would equal 24. Therefore, it is highly possible that the 24 elders are being represented by both Israel and the church, twelve from each group.

This is how i always understood it as well.

Possibly these:

Matthew 27:50-53,50 And יהושע cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit."51 And see, the veil of the Dwelling Place was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split,"52 and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the set-apart ones who had fallen asleep were raised,"53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the set-apart city and appeared to many."

I would offer. Because we do not know God after any man seen Jew nor Gentile, male or female The focus is on the number word metaphors used in parables. Twelve speaks of the authority of God. In multiples of 2. ( 2x12 = 24) . Or multiples of 12(12x12=144).

With twelve tribes to represent gates by which we enter into our relationship with God. The tribe of Dan missing to represent those under the judgement of God as non believers.(no faith) Twelve on the old testament side of the first century reformation. And on this side of the reformation, twelve apostles as walls as those sent out with the gospel (apostle means sent ones with no other meaning added) with Judas missing to be used like Dan. Therefore together to represent the city of Christ the new heavenly Jerusalem prepared as the bride .

She is also represented by the metaphor 144, 000 with the thousands added to represent a unknown as the word thousand is used throughout the scripture. This is as the measure of God .

And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel Revelation 21:15-17

God makes no difference between a Jew or a Gentile. tribes as gates are part of the whole just as the wall. One bride, one church, one new creation
