I believe the bible is a spiritual guide book, for us to be used for us in our life today, but not something to bash in the face of other people, or use scripture to cut throats, and necks of other people who may believe differently than others that is all...

I ain't seen a wolf in a long time I guess is all I'm really getting at... They are probably hiding so good, it's impossible for me to really tell, at the limited of number of human beings I see on an average bases...

But I do know that times were very different back then in the times when all of these letters were written, to them back then.

But of course that is just me, and my different view points in seeing that all the bible is fulfilled, and it changes everything around that it doesn't seem quiet normal to follow everyone else in what they may think or see in their own life, and faith that they live.

do you always try to make a case with unrelated events to explain why we might just gloss over the warnings in scripture? Not always, but I felt like talking today, even if it doesn't matter to anyone in here I guess.

God bless :)
You've seen a lot more wolves than you realize. I've seen a wolf going after you in the last 48 hours. (Couldn't sleep two nights ago, so lost track of time.) I consider you a lamb. You don't know much about the Lord yet, so you tend to believe everyone is safe to follow. They're not.

A very good reason you should be studying the Bible as a lot more than just "a spiritual guide book." You really do need the protection of the Good Shepherd. I'll snap at the snout of wolves coming at you, (and have), but you aren't even catching the clue bare teeth were headed your way. And I am not the shepherd. I'm just another sheep in need of the shepherd too.

As a gardener, thank you so much for the photos. Always wondered what both look like. (I haven't ever seen a wheat plant IRL. Corn. Lots of corn, but no wheat. lol) But, it's fairly easy to tell the difference in those photos too. After all, we keep cultivating grain to make more food out of less space. (A friend of hubby's job was to figure out how to make a new strain of wheat that had more kernels of wheat on it per stalk. Back when he knew the man, he had already invented one that made three new extra-kernels per stalk. No telling where he went from there.) I'm thinking before Man realized they could hybrid plants, the wheat and tare looked more the same. After all, even now that we can make a better plant, no one wants to make a better weed. lol

As for tares being in the churches, yup, but so are the wolves. No shepherd ever worried about a wolf living far away from his herd. It's the ones that do come in that we have to watch out for, especially when wearing the sheepskin.

And there is the concept of alpha wolf for a reason. Not all wolves are leaders.
actually wheat in a field...like acres and acres of it...turning golden in the sun is really pretty IMO...at one time we had a home with a huge wheat field behind us...when the wind came up, the wheat was like water...you could follow the wind with the bent of the wheat...

interesting that the tares resemble the wheat for sure and you'r welcome re the pics...you are prob right re them looking closer in appearance back when

about all wolves being leaders..meant that particularly in comparison to the tares for clairity

you know, wolves will go for the legs to cripple so I guess all kinds of comparisons can be made

but wolves are not sheep either way...sheep are followers...wolves do travel in packs but there is also the lone wolf

how far can we go with comparing and creating metaphors? prob pretty far haha

they knew less about wolves when the metaphor was written; all wolves were 'bad'...I particularly like wolves actually...but I understand what you are saying

I was tempted to get into the good traits of alpha wolves, but it didn't really fit into the conversation. I like wolves too... just at a safe distance. (I blame it on The Jungle Book. lol)

Wolves are those who want to attract the disciples after themselves.

Hi Depleted.

Good post.

Do you think the parable refers to the church or the world or both?
When I say church not necessarily Christian church but could include other religions that preach against the Gospel.

Matthew 13:24-30
The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;
25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.
26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.
27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’
28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’
29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

Matthew 13:36-40
The Parable of the Tares Explained
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.
39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.

What is interesting is verse 29.
It looks like at some point it is very difficult to distinguish between wheat and tares.

Tares in early stages of growth resemble wheat.
But when it's time to harvest it's obvious they are tares and not wheat.

What do you think?
I like to look at this on more of a personal level. The "world" could be my natural mind, the Seed is the truth from Law and Prophets (from sons of the Kingdom) which brings forth fruit (wheat, repentance, righteous thoughts and deeds) and the tares are the rebellious carnal wicked thoughts that I am to rule over. Wheat struggles with weeds, tares, who try to chock them out, starve them of water, and block the "Light".

Jesus said He would leave these tares "thoughts" with us to "prove us".

Josh 2:21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
23 Therefore the LORD left those nations,(Symbolic of our uncircumcised thoughts) without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

Another fascinating analogy Jesus uses for us to ponder. Good post again BillyG :)
