the Bible uses the word drunkard, which I would define as being a drunk, staying drunk all or most of the time, I think most folks in this area don't like moderation preaching, But I think anything can be a sin if we allow it to control our life, if we allow it to come between us and God, I knew a preacher once. who did not have a tv in his house, everyone that knew this, thought that he thought tv's were sin, but he explained to me one day that tv's can be use as good, but the reason he didn't have one, was that if he had one he would spend all his time in front of this box, watching it, instead of laboring for our Lord.
even bible forums like this can be used of the devil or it can be used of God , I wonder sometimes if I don't spend too much time in here? so I guess I will answer your question with a question, does getting drunk occasionally make one a drunkard ?

I think makeup on a pretty women is wrong not a sin but no makeup on a ugly women is a sin. LOL Now about drinking a drink once in awhile is not a problem, though I've heard some preach other wise. A drunker-ed is one that takes a drink and wakes up three days later and don't know what happened, that is wrong, but a drink once in awhile makes one merry and thats good for soul.

Why would makeup on an ugly woman be a sin? That didn't make much sense to me.

see we don't need greek. so by going by the greek here, this would only mean wine drinkers, and it would not apply if one were to get drunk from beer????? cause the greek manuscripts only meant wine?

Yes, you do need the Greek, but you need to look to your interpretation. Oinos is wine, but the literal interpretation does not require that it only be applied to wine as the word itself is applied to all alcoholic drink. Do not abandon the original language because it requires more work....

A drunkard is something more than just getting drunk occasionally from having too much. It means a person who gets drunk and then goes on to commit violent behaviour etc, to act in like manner to the heathens. The reason why drunkardness is prohibited is because of the behaviour it can lead to and to separate oneself from the heathen. It means you aren't allowed to go to drinking parties and get drunk and do things like that. But having a few too many sometimes I don't think is prohibited. In fact the bible says to give strong drink to a person who is in the dumps.

I believe that anything , even good things and deeds can also be sinful if they come between you and Jesus.
Just the same , sometimes what some would say is wrong is right in the eyes of God.
Remember when Jesus was visiting friends and the one Mary was upset with the other Mary because she was spending her time with Jesus instead of helping with the chores? Jesus said it was more important for Mary to spend her time with Him.

Snail, I would love to disagree with you but I cannot.

When I was a taxi driver I picked up 2 Angels from a bottle shop. They said they were taking wine to go and cheer someone up. I have very good reasons for believing they were Angels. You will never convince me otherwise.

Actually I spent 12 months formally studying Koine Greek. I also spent 14 months in Israel.

a drink once in a while makes one merry and thats good for soul???!!....well in that case,a lil bit of everything would make a person happy-unbelievers would say that. As for us-believers..GODS word makes one happy and it is good for soul and keeps that person going...and exactly whats with "I think makeup on a pretty women is wrong not a sin but no makeup on a ugly women is a sin"????!!!....makes no sense!! To be honest i never used makeup in my life and dont think that its really necessary....but thats just my opinion.

There are things in life that to some people is a sin and to others is not. For example: instrumental music in Church. The New Testament says sing and make melody in your heart. Some people take that as no instruments and to have them is a sin. Other people take it differently. So if to you, you think something is a sin and you do it than it probably is. But if one believes that instruments is a sin does not mean that to God it is a sin. As long as you focus on the words and not the musical instruments. I believe either way is OK. There are many examples, like eating meat. To some it offends but clearly God has given us all things to eat. We are all different people and some people get offended by things that is not a sin in the Bible.
