Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur - Begins sunset Sun, September 27 ends the evening of Mon, September 28

The 7 Feasts (appointed times) of the Lord are acting witness's to God's plan, governing scriptural events & time lines (Lev 23).

This 1 day each year, 10th day of the 7th month = the Day of Atonement/Kippur.

The high priest was allowed to go behind the temple veil into the inner sanctuary/Holy of Holies. Bringing burning incense & sprinkling sacrificial blood onto the Ark of the Covenant. For his own sins & those of the people (Lev 4:3-21). Cleansing impurity, which needed to be done to prevent the presents of God from leaving the Temple.

The central themes of this set apart day/appointed time were: Sin atonement, fasting, prayer & repentant reflections on ones actions committed over the past year.

Lev 23:
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

27 the 10th day of this 7th month shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
(NOTE: Strong's Hebrew 4744: Convocation = Set apart gathering/Rehearsal. Col 2:17 OT sacrifices were are a shadow/rehearsal of the things that were to come)

30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
(NOTE: The 9th day of the month: Shall be treated as a Sabbath day, (find info on HIGH DAYS at the bottom of this post) afflict your souls =FASTING)

Celestial objects & their purpose:
Gen 1:14-18 God gives 3 visible celestial objects: the sun, moon & stars. To be used for: signs, set times, days, seasons & years. Knowledge about the sun, moon, stars & things pertinent to a lunar solar year, were a high priest responsibility. Knowing when & how to observe all holy convocations (Ex 16)

KJ Bible dictionary: IMPU'TED, Charged to the account of; attributed; ascribed.

Impute: Strong's Concordance #1677, Verb, Greek word = ellogao. Definition: to charge to one's account, impute. Usage: I charge to, put to one's account, impute.

Impute Theology definition: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=impute+definition&spf=1495026567220
ascribe (righteousness, guilt, etc.) to someone by virtue of a similar quality in another. "Christ's righteousness has been imputed to us"

Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
(NOTE: The high priest had the authority to IMPUTE Israel's sins onto an innocent sacrifice. After the high priest IMPUTED all Israel's sins onto the sacrifice. It was sent into the WILDERNESS, giving the people a visual of their sins being carried away. There was another lamb picked that was offered up on the alter. See Lev 16:5)

30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
(NOTE: The high priests atonement cleansed/covered (not removed) for 1 yr, all Israels sins committed that year.)

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
(NOTE: Behold the Lamb of God, which (not just covers for 1 yr) TAKES AWAY the sin. A once for all time sacrificial payment, Heb 10:10)

Jesus our sinless Great High Priest (Heb 4:14-15). His sacrifice was once for all time (Heb 10:10). At Jesus death he didn't go behind the veil, he tore it in 1/2 as he passed thru it (Matt 27:51, Mk 15:38) on his way into Gods presents/paradise. Where His sin atoning payment secured "eternal redemption" (Heb 9:12) for every believer.

Jesus IMPUTES our just/due sin punishment, that He bought/paid for at Calvary, onto Himself. He then IMPUTES his righteousness, earned through faithful obedience, onto us. Whereby we become the righteousness of God in Christ, 2 Cor 5:21. The Levitical priest had the authority to IMPUTE sin. Our sinless Great High Priest has the authority to IMPUTE righteousness (HIS) as well).

Christ's resurrection is Father's receipt to every believer: That sins heavenly required wage due (DEATH) was received/accepted & Stamped PAID in FULL!

Once every 50 years this day began a year of Jubilee:

Year of Jubilee: Complete release from all indebtedness (Lev 25:23-38), all types of bondage (Lev 25:39-55), all prisoners & captives were set free, all slaves were released, all debts were forgiven, all property was returned to its original owners. All labor was to cease for 1 year anyone bound by labor contracts were released from them. Throughout the Jubilee Yr, both the land & the people were able to rest. Land owners were not required to tithe that whole year)

Lev 25:8-13

9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the 10th day of the 7th month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
(NOTE: In Hebrew jubilee literally means "ram’s horn" I.E. Shofar/Trumpet)

10 Ye shall hallow the 50th year & proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you & ye shall return every man unto his possession & ye shall return every man unto his family.
(NOTE: Every 50th yr proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants)

Jesus is our Jubilee:

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Luke 4:18 Jesus said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

HIGH DAY:
John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
(NOTE: HIGH DAY: Although treated as a Sabbath, a High Day is not necessarily the 7th day of the week. Like the Passover High Day (14th day of Nissan), any day the 9th of Tishri & Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur falls on were treated like a Sabbath)

The 7 Feasts of the Lord: 1) Passover, 2) Unleavened Bread, 3) Firstfruits, 4) Pentecost, 5) Rosh Hashanah 6) Yom Kippur 7) Tabernacles

The first 4 Feasts are referred to as the Spring Feasts & pointed to Christ's 1st coming:

Jesus died on Passover, was buried during Unleavened Bread, He rose on Firstfruits & He sent the salvation/sealing baptism of His indwelling Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

The Last 3 Feasts point to the Lords 2nd coming.
