The writer of Hebrews said we are "not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together."

Until we can safely gather together for small group Bible studies, what can we do to engage in small groups in the interim?

I came up with a small list of examples. Please feel free to add your own.

1. Use Facebook Groups for your small group study.
Check out: https://www.smallgroups.com/articles/2012/make-facebook-group-for-your-group.html

2. Use YouVersion to create an online small group study.
Check out: http://ymsidekick.com/2018/10/18/how-to-create-an-online-group-bible-study-with-youversion/

3. Use ProBoards to create an online discussion community.
Check out: https://www.wikihow.com/Start-an-Online-Discussion-Community

4. Use group chat (text and audio) to run an online Bible study.
Check out: https://christianchat.com/

These examples have several things in common.
  • They are being used to support small group activities.
  • They encourage interaction with other believers while practicing safe social distance - helping to create a sense of community.
  • They are Free. Although additional features or uses may require a premium.
  • They require very basic technology. Mostly the ability to use an internet browser or a smartphone. No rocket science or programming needed.
Of course, you will want to carefully check any of these options or those you have come up with before taking the plunge.

As in any small group, you need to establish ground rules for sharing. As these are online options, pay particular attention to their privacy policies and privacy safeguards. Remember that anything shared online can be potentially re-shared elsewhere. For example, practice discretion on how to share prayer requests online.

Now - it's your turn. Can you add to the list?

Miss being in the actual room with my group. But for the past 3 weeks we have used ZOOM video conferencing. It looks like the "Brady Bunch" on your computer. You can see and hear everyone. Or you can choose to mute and have no pic and just listen, It allows up to 100 people.

And yes, I am aware of the security issues with this platform.

We are on the Book of Hebrews, Chapter 10. A difficult Chapter to tackle for sure.
