"And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away."
Nehemiah 12:43
Notice that it doesn't say they rejoiced because their lives were awesome. It doesn't say they rejoiced because they had fancy homes and lots of nice things. It doesn't say they rejoiced because nothing bad ever happened to them. No; they rejoiced because GOD GAVE THEM GREAT JOY. THIS is why it's possible to have joy no matter what circumstances. This is also the difference between happiness and joy. Happiness comes from people and things; it's not a bad thing, but it's circumstantial and it's temporary. Joy is a gift that God gives us no matter what we're going through.
Thank you, Lord, for giving me joy
