Requirements for the good marriage:
1 – Always be ready to do good. We are not always as we would like and, of course, hardly ever people will be as we wish. The success of the relationship is to overcome the evil within us with good (Rom 12:19-21) so that we may be able to help the person to overcome the evil that surrounds them rather than falling along with them (Heb 12:1,2; 1Peter 5:8,9).
2 – HONESTITY. Just as we do not like to be robbed, abused or harmed, we have no right to steal, mistreat or harm anyone (Mat 7:12).
We have to be honest in the smallest things: every penny, every second of our lives, every letter or sound that comes out of our throat. Many times, we think that marriage is broken because of great things like betrayal or physical assault. However, what really makes a difference is the little things. As Jesus said: “He who is faithful in the least is also faithful in much. And he who is unjust in the least is also unjust in much.” (Lc 16:10).
When someone stumbles, it falls because of little things, like marbles. On the other hand, what makes antique artists so special is the ability to work on details.
Thus, what strengthens the marriage is the art and delicacy of giving, every moment, a brush of affection and love, without ever going to sleep with a seed of wrath or sorrow (Ef 4:26). Even if it is of the size of a mustard grain, it can grow and become the largest vegetable full of grudge (Mc 4:31,32).
So, have a good day seeking to be what your spouse needs you to be.
