Part II of the 6th Trumpet - Continued

“Now the horses and riders in my vision looked like this.”

As I had previously mentioned, the reason that trumpets 5, 6 and 7 are referred to as woes, is because each of them are demonic in nature. That said; let’s look at the description of the horses and their riders:

  • They had breastplates the colors of fire, sapphire and brimstone
  • The heads of the horses were like heads of lions
  • Out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone.
  • A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and brimstone that proceeded from their mouths.

First of all, the colors of their breastplates, fire, sapphire and brimstone i.e. red, blue and yellow, represent the method in which they kill a third of the inhabitants of the earth, which procedes from the horses mouths, by fire/red, by smoke/blue and by brimstone/yellow. By these three, a third of mankind is killed, which match the colors of their breastplates.

Though John is seeing visions of the future in Revelation, whenever he is speaking about God’s creation such as mountains, snakes, lions, horses, etc., we are on the same page as he is, because regardless of the passing of time, those things never change. That being said, what horses do we know that have heads like lions heads with fire, smoke and sulfur issuing from their mouths?

One might say, “Well, John is seeing a vision of the future and so he is referring to a military vehicle or some future machine.” The problem with that theory is that, John knows what a horse looks like and therefore is not going to call something a horse that doesn’t even resemble a horse. Remember, John was not stupid; he just lived in a time when there was nothing to compare to the technology of what he was seeing in some of his visions. If anything he would refer to something with wheels as a chariot or carriage, not as a horse.

That being said, twice in verse 17 and once in verse 19, John refers to them as “the horses.” If you will notice in verse 17 John says, “The heads of the horses were like lions heads,” which tells me that John was able to make distinctions between something that is literal and something that is similar. John makes these comparisons a number of times, for example he says: ”something like a huge mountain, hair like women’s hair, teeth like lions teeth,” etc. My point being that, in referring to these horses he does not say “like horses,” but “the horses.” Therefore, for all intents and purposes, these are literal horses from the ground up with the exception of the head, which resembles a lions head, and which is where the fire, smoke and sulfur come from.

Regarding the claim as the 200 million representing the armies of the kings of the east, we have to keep in mind that the scripture states that it is those angels and their army who kill a third of mankind, and not men killing men. In addition, what nation on earth has horses with lion’s heads with fire, smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths? These are demonic beings who kill a third of mankind, not the kings of the east.

For the power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; indeed, their tails were like snakes with heads to inflict harm.

We have seen that a third of the inhabitants of the earth will be killed by the fire, smoke and sulfur that proceeds from the mouths of these demonic beings, but their tails are also said to be like snakes heads which inflict harm. There is not much information regarding this except for what is mentioned in the last part of that one verse. But I’m guessing that it is referring to the harm like that of being bitten by a poisonous snake. So, in addition to the fatalities caused by the fire, smoke and sulfur which proceed from their mouths, they also have these tails like snakes heads that cause harm.

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk. Furthermore, they did not repent of their murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft.

That it is said that that the rest of mankind who were not killed by those plagues still did not repent, tells me that one of the purposes of these plagues of wrath is to get the inhabitants of the earth to repent and to turn to God so that they can be saved, yet they will not. The same thing is mentioned in the bowl judgments that after the latter bowls are poured out, it states that people would not repent and turn to God, but instead curse him, which we will go over when we get to the bowl judgments. Also, in the scripture above, a list of the sinful acts is given as to why God will be pouring out these plauges of wrath upon the inhabitants of the earth.

The second woe has passed. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly
