The Seventh Trumpet
Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and loud voices called out in heaven:
“The kingdom of the world is now the kingdom of our Lord
and of His Christ,
and He will reign forever and ever.” – Rev.11:15
In between the opening of the sixth seal and before the opening of the seventh, there are two interludes or parenthetic pauses, the first being John’s vision of the 144,000 and the second being his vision of the great tribulation saints, which make up all of chapter 7. Then here after the sixth trumpet and before the seventh trumpet we have two more interludes which is the information regarding the angel with the small scroll which John is told to eat, followed by the information regarding the two witnesses. Following that comes the sounding of the seventh trumpet.
The results of the seventh trumpet/third woe, is the war in heaven, where Satan and his angels are finally thrown out and restricted to the earth. There is a pre-celebratory announcement in Rev.11:15 above before the seventh trumpet is sounded, and there is a post-celebratory announcement after the seventh trumpet is sounded, as described below:
And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying:
“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of His Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down,
he who accuses them day and night before our God.
They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
and they did not love their lives
so as to shy away from death. – Rev.12:10-11
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden, the authority of the kingdoms of the world was given over to Satan, which can be deduced from the following:
“The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
Therefore, Satan and his angels being thrown out of heaven here in Rev.12 is apart of the process of the authority of the kingdoms of the world reverting back from Satan to God. Many have attempted to use this to prove that the seventh trumpet is the end or that the church is being gathered here, but nothing of the kind is being said here in the context. As proof of this, after this seventh trumpet there are seven bowl judgments which must still take place before the Lord returns to the earth to end the age.
We know that since it is stated that the woman is cared for out in the desert for 1260 days that it is referring to that last 3 ½ years of that seven-year period. And since the dragon/Satan pursues the woman as soon as he is cast down to the earth, then Satan and his angels are being thrown down to the earth in the middle of the seven years, which again is referred to as the great tribulation period.
Where the first and second woes are plainly listed after the results of the fifth and sixth trumpets, many miss the reference to the third woe and read right over it, which is inferred after Satan and angels are thrown out of heaven, as revealed in the following:
“Therefore rejoice, O heavens,
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea;
with great fury the devil has come down to you,
knowing he has only a short time.”
Where there is an announcement that the first and second woe having passed, there is no such announcement for the third woe, which is why most readers miss it. Satan and his angels being thrown out of heaven will affect the entire last 3 ½ years, where since they will no longer have access to heaven, they will be able to focus all of their evil and malice upon the earth.
The mention of Satan being filled with fury knowing that he has “only a short time” after he is cast the earth, is referring to the fact that he knows that he only has 3 ½ years before Christ returns, where at which time he is thrown into the Abyss and locked in for a thousand years.
As previously stated, the reason I believe that trumpets 5, 6 and 7 are referred to as woes, is because they are all demonic in nature, with the fifth trumpet/first woe being those demonic locusts being released from the Abyss to torment the inhabitants of the earth, the sixth trumpet/second woe being where those four angels and their demonic army of 200 million kill a third of mankind and lastly is the seventh trumpet/third woe where Satan and his angels are cast out of heaven to the earth, which will affect that entire last 3 1/2 years of that seven year period.
