What is a deceitful wage?

  • “The wicked makes a deceitful wage; but one sowing righteousness has a sure reward.” (Proverbs 11:18).

Most of the people get brightened up when they make much money. Nevertheless, what is the point of this if we don’t know what is good for us? Or worst: if we only get elated with bad things? What real recompense can we receive if our welfare is built on the disgrace of many people?

Even if we enrich and get prosperous in our career, what peace can we find in the solitude, being hated or despised? What real gaiety can we expect if our relationships are comprised of people who are with us only caring about relish and entertainment?

See what Paul said:

  • “Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, so that he may have something to give to him who needs.” (Eph 4:28).

Observe that the true wage aims to help people. Jesus also said this:

  • “And I say to you, Make friends by the mammon of unrighteousness for yourselves, so that when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.” (Luke 16:9)

Our job has mainly one target: to love our neighbor as Jesus loved us (John 15:34,35). Our role is to give occasion to Jesus manifest Himself through us, whether while we use our gifts and talents to sort out people’s problems, or when we, liberally, impart our wage to help people to get through their defiance.

And Jesus shew the relation between commerce and make friends in Him through the parable of the minas:

  • “And came the first, saying, Lord, your mina has gained ten minas. And he said to him, Well done, good servant, because you have been faithful in a least thing, have authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, your mina has made five minas. And he said the same to him, You be over five cities.“ (Luke 19:16-19).

Perceive that the reward of each one who traded was authority over cities, that is to say, the privilege of being an example and food to the herd of Christ (1Peter 5:1-3).

So, have a nice day abiding by the instruction of Isaiah:

  • Why do you weigh silver for what is not bread? and your labor for what never satisfies? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Bow down your ear, and come to Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.” (Isa 55:2,3)
