With Thanksgiving in a few days, it is crucial to realize that our Founding Fathers viewed the Pilgrims as their founding fathers. They saw the Mayflower Compact as one example of many in governing documents to mimic in the creation of America. The Mayflower Compact set the foundation and reason for the Pilgrims journey.

THE MAYFLOWER COMPACT
(November, 1620)
The In the name of God, Amen. We whose names are under-written, the loyal subjects of our dread sovereign Lord, King James, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith, etc.

Having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine our selves together into a civil body politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the Colony, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In witness whereof we have hereunder subscribed our names at Cape Cod, the eleventh of November [New Style, November 21], in the year of the reign of our sovereign lord, King James, of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth.
Anno Dom. 1620.

To be honest I came here prepared to read some nonsense. I have to admit that being in the Christian community has made me quite cynical. Because the amount of utter nonsense that the community tends to glom onto. Like Christmas is a pagan holiday, and bert and ernie are gay, to give just two examples.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you did honestly post actual facts.
Even though it was a betrayal of my expectations, this was a refreshing one.

Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been produced by His hand that made all things of nothing, and gives being to all things that are; and, as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many...

Humm sounds like they intended to have a country based on Christian values and beliefs while still maintaining freedom of religion. Imagine that. Calling on Dude, where are you?? We've had this discussion in another thread. Thanks for sharing.

BlueStar is my nephew, he is living with us now. I'm having to show him everything our public schools did not lol. I felt betrayed when I began to study history on my own. Ironically, so did he after only sharing a few historical facts with him.

I have shared so many facts related to this topic with Dude but they get ignored.

The Pilgrims had more faith and trust in God than 98% of modern Christians. That faith brought many of them to die from hunger, disease, and from those two, many froze to death. One pilgrim was so weak from starvation, he couldn't lift his foot out of the deep snow, and froze to death overnight.

All came with the dream of religious freedom, the goal to share the Gospel, and the excitement to start over with God at the foundation of their morals and laws.

Well, you have a very intelligent nephew. And he seems very mature. But I'm not surprised, I don't think you've ever posted anything that wasn't dead on. My two young nephews are being raised the same way. My sister doesn't leave their learning to the teachers to indoctrinate them. Then again there are a lot of adults that are indoctrinated. Pity.

He is very intelligent at 14 about 15 years old. We have some great conversations about theology, history, psychology, philosophy, sociology, civics, economics, and how the scriptures apply to our everyday life.

It is unfortunate many adults remain indoctrinated or willingly ignorant to such truth. Especially when everything is well referenced. Why should anyone put their sole trust in a modern historian if they give their interpretation on a historical event when you can go the original writings of those who were there like George Washington. And when you have historians that lived closure the time of the historical events. Why would I need a historian in 2020 to enlighten me on the 1700s when historians in the 1800s wrote about those events? With such historical evidence so well recorded, the only difference between the 1800 historian and 2020 historian is perspective. They both look at the same evidence.

More on this topic.

Squanto the Indian who saved the Pilgrims from complete desolation was in fact already a Christian before the Pilgrims arrived and could speak English.

11 years before the Pilgrims arrived, Squanto had been kidnapped by a group of English traders, led by Captain Hunt. Hunt brought him to Spain where he was sold into slavery.

Squanto was bought by a well-meaning Spanish monk, who treated him well and taught him the Christian faith. Squanto eventually made his way to England and worked in the stable of a man named John Slaney. Slaney sympathized with Squanto’s desire to return home, and he promised to put the Indian on the first vessel bound for America.

It wasn’t until 1619—ten years after Squanto was first kidnapped—that a ship was found. Finally, after a decade of exile and heartbreak, Squanto was on his way home.

But when he arrived in Massachusetts, more heartbreak awaited him. An epidemic had wiped out Squanto’s entire village.

A year later, a shipload of English families arrived and settled on the very land once occupied by Squanto’s people. Squanto went to meet them, greeting the startled Pilgrims in English.

Why would God allow Squanto to go through what he had experienced? Why didn't Squanto hate the Englishman? What are the odds for two groups to meet with peace in mind both knew of God and Jesus Christ as Lord? What are the odds that Squanto's village destroyed by disease still had corn preserved that was the main source of food for the Pilgrims to survive on during that first deadly winter? That was before Squanto had even met them.

God's hand has shaped this country and of course, it isn't without the battlefield craters of Satan who tried and tries every day to defeat the will of God. Satan tried through the tyrant of Britain but failed, he tried through slavery and a Civil War but failed, he tried through Hitler but failed, he tried through segregation but failed.

He failed because the people of God stood against such evil.

Today we must rise against the evils of our modern age and push to eradicate it.

By the President of the United States of America
A P R O C L A M A T I O N
[4 March 1815]
THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

of the United
States, have, by a joint Resolution, signified their desire, that a day may be recommended, to be observed by the people of the United States with religious solemnity, as a day of thanksgiving, and of devout acknowledgments to Almighty God, for His great goodness manifested in restoring to them, the blessing of peace.

No people ought to feel greater obligations to celebrate the goodness of the Great Disposer of events, and of the destiny of nations, than the people of the United States. His kind Providence originally conducted them to one of the best portions of the dwelling place allotted for the great family of the Human race. He protected and cherished them, under all the difficulties and trials to which they were exposed in their early days. Under His fostering care, their habits, their sentiments, and their pursuits prepared them, for a transition in due time to a state of Independence and Self Government.

In the arduous struggle by which it was attained, they were distinguished by multiplied tokens of His benign interposition. During the interval which succeeded, He reared them into the strength and endowed them with the resources, which have enabled them to assert their national rights, and to enhance their national character, in another arduous conflict, which is now so happily terminated, by a peace and reconciliation with those who have been our Enemies. And to the same Divine Author of every good and perfect gift, we are indebted for all those privileges and advantages, religious as well as civil, which are so richly enjoyed in this favored land.

It is for blessings, such as these, and more especially for the restoration of the blessing of peace, that I now recommend, that the second Thursday in April next be set apart as a day on which the people of every religious denomination, may, in their solemn Assemblies, unite their hearts and their voices, in a free will offering to their Heavenly Benefactor, of their homage of thanksgiving, and of their songs of praise.

GIVEN at the City of Washington on the fourth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen, and of the Independence of the United States the thirty ninth.

JAMES MADISON
