There are some metal bands I like, but they are not christian. Christian metal bands are mediocre at most, but the fact that they label themselves as 'christian' gets them loyal fans and helps them to sell records. Personally I believe it's not just the lyrics or the possible christian conviction of bandmembers that makes christian music 'christian.' There's also the overall 'atmosphere' of the music. Usually the 'atmosphere' of metal music is very negative, dark and gloomy, and that doesn't really help me to worship. With some bands you can't even hear what they're singing in the first place, so how can their lyrics be edifying?

'heaviness' is really more of a timbre thing than anything else...and i think a lot of the reason people consider particular melodies to be 'dark' is just because they have been conditioned to make that association...

Life sometimes has its "dark" and "heavy" moments. Nothing weird or unusual about that. Only makes sense to find fitting music if that's your thing.

Personally I find hard rock music therapeutic and it channels my anxiety into something I can bob my head to.

But certain kinds of classical music with crazy fast pianos and anxiety vibes and stuff can make me feel tense and angry and negative and kind of make me want to smash something. It's so weird but it's true, lol.

Oh, I enjoy metal music but I can't stand too much of the guttural screaming you find in quite a few bands.

Play Mozart to cows and they will produce more milk, play say Iron Maiden all day and they will produce less milk, if they don't break loose and stampede, that is. All living beings have a natural preference for cheerful, light melodies, no conditioning involved. The love for 'heavy' music, however, is more of an acquired taste. People learn from their peer group what they SHOULD like, they are conditioned to do so.
So... could be the lyrics of a christian band are ok, and the bandmembers are all christian, but listening to music like that still makes me wanna break stuff, and not just because christian metalbands usually are mediocre or even bad.

I don't know about that one. None of my friends are into the same music I'm into. I certainly didn't (and don't) follow their music tastes. I enjoy what I enjoy. Simple as that.

I believe that everyone has an individual walk with God just as we are all individuals. What one might see as dark and depressing will be another persons most joyful song. The way one person might praise to an up tempo gospel song. Another might only feel that kind of joy in a fast metal song, or slow metal song. A good metal or even black metal or doom metal (I don't know how many kinds of metals there are out there these days) can make you feel empowered and strong. It's about what you think at the time and that is going to depend on they lyrics.

Music is good. All the time. Always enjoy whatever puts a smile on your face !! God made Music so that it could be fun. I listen to any music that makes me feel good. And it's not necessarily Christian. Though there is a huge difference for Christian music can help you and bring you closer to God the more you listen to it. But there is so much in other non Christian music. When you're not biased to Music, it's good and you have so much fun and peace with it. To everyone their own musical tastes. Just enjoy music :) Don't need to understand it for every song and every instrument comes from a person in this world. It's his or her feelings. Music is the language of the soul.

False prophet alert! False prophet alert!! :p haha

(I'm not a huge fan of metal....the closest I get to heavy sounding music is Skillet and a little bit of Ashes Remain. I don't do screamo. It just sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me.)

Are you the type of person who will condemn music, just because it sounds dark/heavy (or whatever else you are uncomfortable with), by saying this cannot be Christian?
That's a good question.I heard that some decades back, keyboard was not allowed in churches. Now keyboard is not a problem. The electric rock music and the electric guitar is with no doubt introduced for turning away people from Christianity. But if we look at today's Christian world we have all kinds of genres in Christian music. In past centuries it was all hymns and beautiful songs with sound literature. But now things are more simple, sometimes misleading and sometimes very blessed.
Look at Matt Red man's songs for example. All of them have connection with verses in Holy Bible.Really uplifting songs.Look at Newsboys, very different. Not easy to see the any difference. The key is staying on God and not worshiping the bands.Ask God for guidance and condemn none if you don't find any clear indication of anyone being satanic.God will you the gift of discernment. It's because we don't stay strong and don't pray to God much that we fall into confusion. And confusion comes from satan,he is it's author.
Also one more thing. Please take it as a suggestion.Just don't go for so called 'christian music shows' with so mus 'bizz' if they are proclaiming it as a show.Christianity was not established by any style group. It was established by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. What started in humility and humbleness must continue in humbleness.Judge none.Pray for people, who dress stylishly like the world and think its christian. We are not turning people to Christ but Christ use us to turn people to Him.If we follow him,we need to struggle to walk in his patterns.
Also if you notice today's most christian bands(many of them are unaware and many purposefully) use cult satanic signs and methods. The end result is doom after the initial money success they go through. So when you feel they are to condemned/convicted pray so that some can be saved. We need to act also.

Yes,in short you guessed it correct. Not all are Christian and most bands don't know that. And we have no right to condemn unnecessarily but pray for them even if we condemn. When you point a finger at someone and say YOU ARE WRONG!,later go and pray for them in secret. So that God can have mercy on them seeing your righteous deed. And that doesn't make you righteous but when you pray it leads us to God's righteousness. And God on our behalf starts work in his supernatural way where no one can stop him; so that they change.
Listen to Kutless:what faith can do.Personally i don't like their style. But look at the words. It's full of hope. The point is how your heart reacts.Does it results in doing more sins or are you gradually turning to God.
Always look up.If you got distracted realize it and again look up:)
Pray to God for guidance and stay away from hi-fi christianity. That is indeed satanic even if there are good people in it unaware.Like i said,God will give you the gift of discernment to stay safe.Even if the whole world dance away to the hi-fi christianity,if one person stays with God Christ will come to take that person to Eternity in Heaven marking the judgement of those who reject him when the numbers will count countless against one changed in the 'twinkle of an eye'.
And don't think that people in older-traditional-looking ways are all right.LOL.That is the biggest blunder that people make. Many are still caught up in traditions and never know Christ. The path to God is neither to the right nor left but straight. And its visible to every person who stays on God.God looks at man's heart but man looks at outward appearance.Pray honestly to God to show the heart of people whom you interact with. That is one thing that where no person can hide anything.

We follow a God who is not a part of any fashion or any culture because he is a timeless being. And everything in him is new always. He came to this world as man and going to return in secret to make us like him(always new and timeless).People who follow fashion and money won't make it.

God Bless.

What on earth is "hi-fi Christianity"?

Obviously you don't know me, then.
You are wrong. There is something called as symphony and melody. And nature does interact to sound music. The electrical disturbance produced by today's music(most of them) cause damage to a person's soul as well as damage to nature. And unaware for you, there is something called as musical therapy. In the book of Revelation when Christ with army of Saints and other heavenly hosts appear to everyone on earth for the war against satan and his fallen kingdom, the sound of many harps and trumpet is heard. Its not rock music mentioned there.Get things straight.Even if you listen to up beat co called christian music if it gives the tendency to be violent/uncomfy,there is no difference between that and listening to jay-z(a demon -possessed man) spitting out abusive words calling it music.
Look for what changes it brings to your heart and soul. It's that simple. And that means that even if you listen to old hymns its no use if your heart is not straight with God.I am talking from experience. It's god's demand and not ours. And i am happy that despite my protests he makes his will done in my life than my selfish desires. And we all walk in faith and Holy Bible is our reference.Holy Bible says that we should walk in humility and humbleness, and not in post-modern style no matter what you listen to or see when it happens despite our choice. If you are not able to do everything perfectly, try always. With God all things are possible when we take a step.

God Bless.

Hi-fi Christianity is dressing in shorts, shorts skirts, jersyes, vests and marking body with tattoes, showing cult symbols etc.Look at the past and how men and women of God lived then not following the fashions at their time. It's so visible..
