There are tax breaks, official "legal" standing as husband and wife, etc. Our government is not to single out one religion as the superior one in America. Freedom of religion, etc. So how can something mandated by the government be "sacred"? We as Christians are worried about ruining the sanctity of marriage, but the word sanctity shows that the event is sacred. If the event is sacred, why is the government involved in any way whatsoever?

Government involvement is not by the necessity of it's own nature evil or wrong concerning marriage. It is the extent of that involvement, and to what government determines it will do with that involvement.

The sanctity of marriage, is not in anyway threatened or reduced by a tax-benefit.
