I agree that much good has come from space age technology, however a lot of what NASA does is an OBSCENE waste of tax payers money. Just think of all the goo they could do with this money instead of pointless trips to a lifeless planet....like maybe feeding the hungry....

Government has successfully put a man on the moon, it has not, despite all the best intended actions, fed the hungry. Especially when most American poor are obese.

That and if you are interested in advances in agriculture that could potentially create an abundance of healthy food, then NASA research is for you.

We stand at the brink, ladies and gentlemen. A time not unlike the fateful late 15th century when monarchs had the chance to cash in on the abundance of resources in North America. We can either be the first nation to capitalize on the wide girth of resources available to us in the stars, or wallow on our continent and let wonderful nations like China take charge for the time being.

Not now, no thank you. I want mines on the moon, patios on an asteroid, gardens at the base of Olympus Mons!

Restatement of an opinion just challenged is not a valid rebuttle. The sarcastic blue man does not impress me. Try again.

Here's the thing. If they want to waste money to send toys into space that is their choice. I do have a problem with them spending my tax dollars to do so. It infuriates me how our government can squander our hard earned money with zero accountability. Never mind the fact that wa are already trillions of dollars in debt due to nonsense just like this

Here is the basis of it as I understand it.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If there is one thing I truly detest, it is when people put words in my mouth:

1. Space research is a waste of money and amounts to nothing more than spending millions to send tonka trucks with claws and cameras to desolate places of no use to humanity.

2. We are trillions in debt due to projects like space research.

3. The government has the ability to feed millions.

---------------------------

1. Read my previous post. Space technology is not only for space. These "toys" you disparage are collecting vital pieces of information as to the fundamentals of things like the sustaining of life. They also build our knowledge of what it takes to successfully land on another world thereby collecting more information via direct observation. Don't get me started on the need for space weaponry

2. Space research accounts for a very miniscule part of the budget. NASA does waste money, but not when it works according to its intended purpose. You'll find it is incredibly cheap in comparison to welfare programs that don't really work.

3. In the 60's the government tried two things: put a man on the moon and eliminate poverty and want in the US.

I don't understand why people are so critical of science programs like NASA. As a science buff, it irritates me. I can understand the argument that we should be putting more money into feeding the needy. But at the expense of scientific knowledge? Why at the expense of NASA and space programs? Don't you realize that we have technologies used here on Earth that were originally used in the space program?

When people call NASA and similar space programs a waste, it's like they're denying the curiosity found in every human's heart. We are adventurous people! What's on the other side of those mountains? Does this ocean lead to more land, or will I fall off the Earth? This universe we live in is amazing and fantastic! It is the handiwork of God himself! Why would we ignore it, especially when we are located on just the right kind of planet in just the right location in the galaxy in just the right galaxy to observe this universe! We are built to be curious creatures, on a world designed to let us explore our curiosity! I don't think we should ignore the needy; if it would require some funding be taken away from programs such as NASA to have a massive impact on those people in America and around the world, then good. But to make a blanket statement that the space program and what NASA does is a waste is something I absolutely disagree with.

I fear that statements that "NASA is waste of tax money" is another one of those things that gives the appearance that Christianity is at odds with science. Think about it. When it comes to things like landing a rover on Mars, how many people who are known Christians get vocally supportive about it? I'd say very few Christians would even care! But when, instead, nonbelievers read of people calling NASA's exploration a waste... well, you wonder why Christians are labeled as backwoods and Medieval.
