A Muslim baker in Hypothetical, Ohio refused to bake a wedding cake for a Christian couple because they are a part of the Great Satan Religion and cannot bake a cake as it offends their consciences.

I was around at my buds yesterday helping out on his hobby farm while his missus is away in the UK.

When I got there he was watching a youtube discussion about Canadian bill C-16 specifically about an amendment that was made to protect "gender identity".

The bill is intended to protect individuals from discrimination within the sphere of federal jurisdiction and from being the targets of hate propaganda, as a consequence of their gender identity or their gender expression. The bill adds "gender identity or expression" to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination in the Canadian Human Rights Act and the list of characteristics of identifiable groups protected from hate propaganda in the Criminal Code
He was all up in arms over this (even thougt he was claiming this was part of bill C-51) as according to some psychology professor he was watching on youtube claiming he would be forced to use "preferred pronouns" by law.

Jordan Peterson, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, criticized the bill, saying that it would require him to use preferred pronouns of transgender people and make not doing so hate speech. However, according to legal experts, not using preferred pronouns would not meet legal standards for hate speech
When I got home I emailed him a link to the above re bill C-16

This morning I got a reply about the US gay cake issue. So in part this was the "inspiration" for the thread.

Good for him. Christians got no business going to a muslim baker for their wedding cake anyway.

Sorry Locutus, but you are out of touch with the real world and what is happening on campuses across Canada.

Dr. Jordan Peterson is a hero and a man of honour.

Dr. Peterson had every right to be concerned about the bill.

This time I am not laughing.:(

I don't see where I attacked Peterson's "integrity" - he's not in the legal proffession and is entilted to his opinion which on the C16 issues was wrong as a number of writers have pointed out.

Dr Peterson's University of Toronto colleague, Dr Lee Airton, argues he is being alarmist and indulging in "slippery slope fallacies" on the limits of free speech.

"If you actually listen and you parse out the arguments, it becomes very clear that this not about freedom of speech, that this is about reducing transgendered people's needs as excessive and illegitimate."

Dr Airton, who personally asks to be referred to as 'they', recognises people can find alternative pronouns "very jarring", but says if both sides are open to being accommodating, in practice it becomes "no big deal".

"This is not a freedom of speech debate. This is not a scandal," said Dr Airton.

"This is people very publicly working through their own lack of familiarity or understanding of trans people's otherwise fairly ordinary lives."

I know the "ins" and "outs" of this case, and many others, more than you know and BBC has nothing to inform me.

Please continue to read BBC, The New Yorker, Vanity, Politico, The Walrus, to the exclusion of other information sources, I do not need the media to inform me of the negative impact and ramifications of the Bill C-16 is having on freedom of speech, I see it everyday when I go to work and people have no idea how this is impacting every sector of our society.

So much irony here, it is okay to label Trump a "fascist" when I have yet to see him throw anyone in jail over all the horrible things he has been called, yet one sends biased information in support of a Bill that can be used to compel speech, Mr. Locutus the devil is in the details but I can point the legal problems with this Bill until I was blue in the face but I am sure there is no point.

Over and out.

"the devil is in the details but I can point the legal problems with this Bill until I was blue in the face but I am sure there is no point."

Cite some legal council on this then - I quoted the "quote' from the BBC because it was from his colleague (which is his opinion), this has nothing to do with the BBC per se - I'm sure that statement of Dr Lee Airton is elsewhere who knows maybe on a far right news source.

If Lee Airton didn't make those statement that the BBC reported then it becomes fake news - I've been asking you and Maxwell to quote me some of this fake or biased news and post a link so it can be checked against your favorite source as I'm sure none of you do your own reporting/research.

"Bill C-16 is having on freedom of speech, I see it everyday when I go to work and people have no idea how this is impacting every sector of our society."

Some examples might be in order.

Under and out.

It would be "legal decisions" ... what for? You already agree with the prevailing agenda of cultural Marxism and the decisions that are rendered.

Some examples might be in order.
Sadly I have enough to write a book and maybe someday I will, you can keep watch for this title......

"The Aftermath of the Cultural Marxist Agenda"

Yes indeed, under and out!!!

ideally, debate can be simplified to a list of FAQ's

or, collection of axioms or "truths derived from axioms"

axioms pertaining to what category?

there is a subject I want to talk to @UnderGrace about

starting from the biggest wisdom as the center of a "concept map" (big picture perspective) and working our way down into subcategories of details

and,
I hope pie-charts are unnecessary for what we are trying to talk about

This has all gotten out of hand.
End times stuff.
As a new Christian (1985) I held a Seder dinner at my church.
I bought two quarters of lamb that I could not cut up or cook.
Too big
A friend came by, saw my dilemma, and said he could solve the problem.
A person he had made friends with owned a pizza place down the street.
He cooked the lamb for us.
He was a Muslim.
So a Muslim cooked a lamb so Christians could celebrate a Jewish holiday.
That was 1985.

Today we have end times stuff.

People can still get along even though they have different religious beliefs - the zealots are the problem Allen.

Edited to add the opening post is hypothetical not based on a real story - it's intended to open dialogue.

"Get along" means "You WILL abide by MY morals and beliefs, or I WILL castigate, inflame others to harm you, put you out of business, and persecute you and your family!"

The OP really has a hatred for Christians. Most times it's couched in a sarcastic joke, but it's there nonetheless.

FTR, I have no problem with a muslim baker refusing to bake a Christian themed cake. The OP assumes EVERYONE would. I don't in the slightest.

If baking a cake for a Christian couple offends the faith of a Muslim baker then that's well and good. A business should have the right to refuse service to anyone they choose regardless of their faith or beliefs. I will say though that a business that discriminates will not be a profitable as it could be otherwise.

Cause ya know, Christians are the REAL bullies according to people like the OP.....

‘Homophobes Should Keep Quiet’: Elementary School Accused of ‘Intimidating’ Christian Parents
A UK primary school threatened with legal action over an LGBT pride parade for young children has been accused of intimidation after a concerned mother was met by a member of staff wearing a T-shirt which “belittled” Christian views. By Virginia Hale

When Izzy Montague met with the head of Heavers Farm Primary School to discuss concerns that teachers’ promoting of LGBT lifestyles conflicted with Christian beliefs, she was confronted by a member of staff wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan: “Why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic when you could just be quiet?”

“Given the nature of my complaints it was obviously a deliberate act to wear the T-shirt. I believe it was intended to belittle my views and intimidate me into silence,” she told the British Mail on Sunday tabloid.

Mrs Montague made the appointment with headteacher Susan Papas in September to discuss the school’s refusal to excuse her five-year-old son from its ‘Proud to be Me’ parade during so-called gay pride month in June, which a number of Christian parents of children at Heaver Farm have complained was set up to promote LGBT lifestyles.

“I thought this was completely unreasonable … Our children were being indoctrinated with values that they do not need to be taught at such a young age,” she said, telling the newspaper other parents had spoken of teachers reading children storybooks about homosexual penguins and that “no one consulted us about this”.

“Schools are supposed to be tolerant of different faiths as well as different sexualities,” stressed Mrs Montague, who has now pulled her son out of the Croydon primary school.

“Within our faith we teach that a man and a woman together is what makes a family, but in my eyes the school were promoting a different type of lifestyle to the pupils.”

Mrs Montague has now launched an official complaint about the T-shirt, which was worn by Attie Copeman-Papas — the school’s ‘deputy safeguarding manager’ and the head teacher’s daughter — who sat in during the meeting.

“It was highly unprofessional and surely does not adhere to the school policy dress code for staff,” she wrote in the letter, which accuses Copeman-Papas of failing to respect her Christian beliefs.

Ms Papas said the “threat of legal action” meant she was unable to comment on Mrs Montague’s case, but stated that the T-shirt worn by her daughter — a graduate student of ‘sports sociology and feminist theory’ whose papers include “A Feminist Psychoanalytic Approach to the Roles of the Penis, the Phallus and Hegemonic Gender Norms in ‘Feminist Porn’” — was not in breach of the school’s code of conduct.

It was reported last week that Heavers Farm has been threatened with legal action, with 14 Christian parents complaining that the school is “forcing a very aggressive LGBT agenda on to young children in a manner which abuses parental rights and victimises parents”.

Claiming “most of the feedback” to June’s parade “was really positive”, Ms Papas insisted that the school would not “shy away from issues that are important for children to learn about”.

She added: “With pride in British values we have a thread of work – on black history, disability awareness, 100 years since women got the vote – but generally talking to the children about matters of inclusion and diversity.

“Last year we did something for Pride month and focused on what children were proud of.

“Alongside that we were doing work on anti-bullying, anti-transphobic and anti-homophobic language. The older children were looking at the history of LGBT rights.”

While denying anyone had been directly forced to participate in the event, the headteacher did say “[Heavers Farm] would expect children to go to any assembly, class or event put on by the school”.
