Otherkin and Therianthropy are two very similar but distinct beliefs. Otherkin believers typically believe that they are spiritually (or were physically in a past life) a mythological creature (dragons and elves). Therians are more apt to belief in creatures that have walked the earth: canines, felines, etc. Therians and Otherkin either belief that their spirit IS (x) or that they have another spiritual "form" of themselves, whereby this form has its own desires and personality.
Furries are folks who like to pretend to dress up as another creature, be it mythical or real, as another "persona" (also called a "fursona"), but they acknowledge that it is not a reality.
