I wouldn't say Republicans put God at the top. Both parties essentially hate God one way or another, the Democrats are just more obvious.

what a ridiculous article. God created the free market? Lol, capitalism in its modern form is usually traced to the Mercantilism of the 16th–18th Centuries. The fact that one party is ok with denying rights to people should be enough to sway peoples votes, unfortunately too many are just as blinded as the author of this article and refuse to acknowledge any separation of church and state and would probably be happier living in a theocratic government rather than our democratic republic anyways.

The ultimate in "culture wars" was during the 17th century England when the Puritans took over the Kingdom. Oliver Cromwell led the armies and beheaded Charles I who was the first to openly claim the divine right of Kings. Cromwell and his friends the Puritans instituted many laws which made illegal anything that remotely contained Pagan influences, so Christmas was outlawed and dancing around the "Maypole" was also, in the end nearly anything that might be fun or playful was outlawed. Needless to say Cromwell ended up a military dictator attempting to enforce all of those "cultural things."

If America was to go back to the "innocent past" (which never existed except in the minds of a very few people) it would take a military dictatorship to keep everyone under control and our prison population would quadruple. America would not be America any more. There is no positive outcome for culture wars if the religious conservatives win. If we want freedom it must be freedom for the maximum number of people not merely the "good" ones.
