In a speech to the American Legion today, Mitt Romney leveled fresh criticism against President Obama, accusing his administration of cutting the benefits of veterans who are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and going so far as to call plans to cut the Veterans Affairs Department budget a “crisis.”:
Romney charged that the defense budget cuts would affect services for veterans, including the men and women returning from conflict overseas who need psychological counseling. Romney invoked the rising number of suicides – “This is a crisis,” he declared – as he sharpened his attack on the Obama administration’s proposed spending cuts.
But Romney’s claim — that veterans’ care will be negatively impacted by sequestration — is not grounded in reality. Earlier this month, the White House announced that virtually all of the Veterans Affairs Department budget will be exempt from mandatory cuts if and when sequestration goes into effect in January 2013. The only exception, according to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, would be possible cuts to administrative costs. That means health care, vocational, and education services will remain fully funded while cuts are made elsewhere within the Department of Defense, despite Mitt Romney’s claims to the contrary.
Of course, if Romney were actually concerned about the possibility of losing funding for the Veterans Affairs Department, he probably wouldn’t have embraced Paul Ryan or his budget, which could lead to reductions in veterans’ benefits."Think Progress

In his recent memoir Romney's title is "No Apologies" and so far Romney has not offered any apology for any of the many lies he has told. In fact he rejects any "fact checker." He told an interviewer that he would not be held to any fact checker. In theory at least the good fact checkers are non partisan, unbiased observers who merely report cases of ads claims and how true they are. In reality there are many levels of being unbiased or non partisan still given that there is a reality out there that is supposed to correspond to the truth it is important to find some sort of connection with that reality. Romney repeatedly rejects that whole process.

Actually Romney wasnt lying.
My son who is a vet, was just informed that the edjucation funds promised when he signed up for 6 yrs, may be taken back by Obama.
My son is has only one more quarter to his degree.
Many of the promised benifits to our vets are being threatened by Obama, just ask any vet, they know.
Sometimes truth of lies is simply what the press wants us to see, untill we see the truth and live it.

Now the press? there is the real scandal!
People want the truth, so sad that the press has forgotten this.

God bless

The operative word is "maybe" which is not he same as "will be."

I am a vet myself, Vietnam era, long since used my GI bill. The new GI bill is still apparently part of the budget negotiations. Something the Romney Ryan people want to cut severely. Do you really trust them? Seems to me Romney and his ilk prefer to stop anyone from gaining a quality college education since they also want to cut the Pell grants too. Their solution is to "borrow from your parents." LOL

Perhaps you'd like to point to the clause in The Constitution that grants the federal government the power to issue Pell grants?

Also, I really hope you don't think Obama is more truthful than Romney.

Well this is one of the most ridiculous arguments of all time. The constitution is a framework which makes allowance for the congress to make laws for any situation. It says nothing about cigarettes, UFO's, cars, stocks and bonds, nor does it say anything about banks and trains. If we ONLY allow specifically what the constitution does say we would end up living back in the 18th century. If that is truly what you want, then you can go for it by yourself

btw yes I do think Obama is more truthful by a long shot. Some promises required cooperation of congress and maybe Obama should never have assumed they would cooperate.

Increasingly the Romney/Ryan campaign is living in a conservative bubble, they have rejected the truly unbiased commentators, they have rejected the polls which clearly put Obama ahead and they still seem more concerned about shoring up their own base instead of offering real detailed policy differences. Over the last 2 weeks conservatives have been simply claiming that ALL the polls are wrong (including the Fox polls), their claims of Obama lying seem to only fall on republican ears no one else is listening to those claims. Mostly because those claims are hackneyed, dogmatically repeated, over and over without effect.

There is a termination for such a bubble and it is November 6th and if Romney remains in that bubble he will never understand why he lost.

Congress cannot make laws for any situation. You should learn about the Bill of Rights. Check out the tenth amendment while you're at it.

Regarding your odd statement about 'cigarettes, UFO's, cars, stocks and bonds, banks and trains', most of those things existed when the document was written. All of them except cars, in fact. Do you suppose it's possible the founding Fathers thought it was okay for trains and cigarettes to exist with the feds jumping in on them? It's just possible.

If we ONLY allow specifically what the constitution does say we would end up living back in the 18th century. If that is truly what you want, then you can go for it by yourself
Well this is one of the most ridiculous arguments of all time. It wouldn't outlaw things, it would be up to the states to decide. Again, read the tenth amendment. You see those guys were smarter than you give them credit for. Maybe you can explain to me why congress has the right to confiscate my money and possibly (no promises) give it back to me when I'm in my 60's. The answer is they don't, but in your world congress can do whatever they please. You're a great loyal subject, just what they want.
btw yes I do think Obama is more truthful by a long shot. Some promises required cooperation of congress and maybe Obama should never have assumed they would cooperate.
Yeah, that was it. Signing an executive order renewing and expanding The Patriot Act required the cooperation of Congress. There's a list of Obama lies, easily found with a Google search, if you're not afraid of information you disagree with. I can even give you a link for your convenience, if you prefer. What do you say?
