Saint alphonsa, the first ever Indian origin women to get saint hood. On Sunday, 12 October 2008, Pope Benedict XVI announced her canonization at a ceremony at Saint Peter's Square. Govt of India Issued 5 rupees coin for her Birth Centenary. Check the coin at :

Her tomb at St. Mary's Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Bharananganam, Kerala has become a pilgrimage site as miracles have been reported by some of the faithful. Must visit, if you ever plan to come to kerala. St.Alphonsa is believed to show miracles of curing health problems of children in particular.
