Of course they had to add at the very end that only one church has lost its IRS status due to this law. Naturally they forgot the mention the chilling effect it has had on free speech and the bantering of political ideas in a hundreds of thousands of church environments.

I think pastors and churches should have the freedom to say what they want when it comes to politics. It's a freedom of speech issue.

However I also think too many churches put their trust and hope in earthly politics and not in Christ. Back in the 60's the liberal mainline churches started preaching the social gospel and became completely securalized and politicized and lost all touch with the gospel. The same thing happened in black churches. Both groups became so wrapped up in promoting the democrat party that they lost all interest in promoting the gospel. Now the same thing is happening with evangelical churches and the Republican Party and they are reaping the same results. Getting secular political positions mixed up with the gospel and trying to use government to spread Christianity rather than changing people's hearts by spreading the gospel.

I agree. Churches are getting screwed on this. For example, The Southern Poverty law center is a non profit tax exempt organization, that is a leftest political action group.
