Trump breaks his own rule, uses teleprompter - CNNPolitics.com

I actually heard that speech the day he made it and said to myself, "This is one of his better speeches." Come to find out, he broke his own rules and used a teleprompter.

Trump: "I've always said, if you run for president, you shouldn't be allowed to use teleprompters," he said to applause during a rally back in October in Georgia. "Because you don't even know if the guy's smart."

It shouldn't come to anyone as a shock that he has flip flopped on his stance... he's shown a pattern of flip flopping. However, to Donald's credit, he did give a really good speech. His writers did a fantastic job and I'm glad to know Trump is able to do as Obama and be a terrific orator.

Trump: "I don't use teleprompters," he said in January, criticizing Hillary Clinton for using one. "Wouldn't that be easy, teleprompters? I watched Hillary the other day and she has the biggest teleprompters I've ever seen. In fact, if you're sitting on that side of the room or that side of the room you can't see her because when they are outside, they are painted black and you can't even see her."

I definitely don't hate Trump. I do give him credit when it's due. Those are Trump's words about teleprompters, not mine. lol

I just don't think it's a coincidence that when he uses a teleprompter he gives one of his best, if not the best, speech in his presidential campaign. It doesn't prove he is knowledgeable about foreign politics... it just proves he can read and is a great orator.

Why can't we just call it what it is? Even good pastors use notes. Just proves that his detractors will hate him no matter what he does.

So you actually disagree with Trump on something... interesting.

I'm all for Trump using a teleprompter.... it's just a bit hypocritical to attack Hillary for using it and speaking badly about them in general... only to flip flop and use it yourself. Wouldn't you agree on that point?

It clearly doesn't prove that at all. I've said this was his best speech... It's not hate to quote Trump about teleprompters when he used one in this speech. That is called "objectivity"... perhaps you're unfamiliar with that term? jk :p

Every president has used teleprompters. No one has been as dependant on one as Obama. My guess is that the more President Trump gets his legs under him the less he will have to use one. His plain spokeness has been refreshing.

I agree. I think he's won over the supporters that love his 5th grade level debates/attacks, and now he has to use the teleprompter to deliver speeches that will make him appealing to a more mature audience. This speech definitely does that.

But you still didn't comment if you think it's hypocritical of him to use one given his quotes about them.

Hmmmm, I didn't know they had teleprompters in 1789. :p

Every president since Eisenhower has used them to one extent or another with varying degrees of success.

Clinton had a major teleprompter faux pas when someone loaded the wrong speech into the teleprompter and he had to wing it until they got the right one loaded.

Bush Jr tended to do better off of hand written notes over the teleprompter. He was less likely to stammer over his words with notes.

Oh come on. It's well known that Martin Van Buren used a TelePrompTer. Even though he used a DOS operating system he was way ahead of his time. Come on Oncefallen...your TelePrompTer hatred is showing.

Naw, there really is no argument about the teleprompters. I think even Sirk agrees it's highly hypocritical. He just wants to mask Trump's teleprompter hypocrisy by stating "everyone is a hypocrite".

I do think it's a fair point to make that the only time he has sounded presidential and conducted himself as a "statesman" was when he used a teleprompter. I'm just curious if he's able to duplicate this without the teleprompter since he was so adamantly against it.

Also, "every president" using a teleprompter is irrelevant unless "every president" has publicly blasted the people who used it.

Lol its not so much that. More like why love and defend Trump teleprompter use but hate Hillary for it? Trump and Hillary may be more similar than either of their hardcore supporters want or can imagine, and on quite a few things too. Hillary just makes the more rational choice in the likely event of that being the general election match-up, she will probably win so oh well to teleprompters :)
