Midst the night of triumphs in the fray
Our Viking camp from home we saw:
The abduction of our wives and little babes

My gaggle cried aloud and slew the earth around;
My motley band so raged they took in hand my throat:
Midst the night of triumphs in the fray

‘Oh Israel, your traitor’s sands so cruel!
Must standing shall I die by madness-hands in rage for sooth:
The abduction of our wives and little babes?’

With cries of bewailing men so abused, raped in heart and grief to death
Without a thought my knees fell beneath to softened grass by rains:
Midst the night of triumphs in the fray

“Surly my God hears me when I cry!
A promise He has made- my kingdom in my son shall never end:
Midst the night of triumphs in the fray
The abduction of our wives in little babes
