I learned this poem when I was in the 6th grade, xxx years ago. I love it and still can recite it from memory. You may know it.
I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day.
I'd rather one would walk with me than merely show the way
The eyes a better pupil and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing, but examples always clear.
I can soon learn how to do it if you let me see it done.
I can watch your hands in action but your tongue too fast may run.
And the best of all the teachers are the men who live their creeds
For to see the good in action is what everybody needs
And I may misunderstand you and the high advice you give,
But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
I may be missing a line or two, now that I read it, if you know it, please feel free to correct me.
But, don't you love this message?
Hope so,
Enjoy!
