Happy first day of fall! This is my favorite time of year!
I slowly awoke today from a deep slumber to sunlight peaking through the slats of my bedroom blinds. I stood and walked to the open window and heard not a single birds tweet. I lifted the blind to a gentle and quiet breeze. Oh, the cool crispness! I smile to myself knowing what this means! Warm alluring smells of cinnamon and apples, chilli in a crockpot, fresh bread baking. All the smells that bring comfort when it turns colder outside. Soon there will be the most beautiful vibrant reds, gold's, and orange colors that make the bark of the trees appear black and the leaves very thin. Such a contrast to one another. The leaves will soon fall and when I walk outside there will be a pleasant crunch as I gently tread over them. This is my favorite time of year for many wonderful reasons. It is a reminder that just like a tree grows rings in it's trunk, we also grow with every season. This season is God's reminder that we fade, wither, and die. That it is important to stand still and lay bare before our Savior Jesus so He can yet renew our bodies and minds breathing life to us as we grow and just like a tree...each time this happens, we become stronger...easier to bend and not break when the wind blows too hard...growing our roots deeper in the majesty of His creation. A beautiful living soul.
