As requested, my mailing address for the next year is as follows.

Christopher Hayes, 1LT
HHC, 68th CSSB
FPO, AE 09372

It takes around a week or two for letters to make the trip, provided they're not lost or destroyed en-route. I'll be arriving there sometime the first week of November, so you can do the math on when to send stuff. Internet service there is sketchy, so letters are probably going to be the only way to keep in touch.

This is the first deployment for me, and for a lot of the soldiers in my unit. Many of them are going to have a hard time, given the living conditions and dangerous environment. If you'd like to send an anonymous letter or package to a soldier, it would really boost their spirits. Particularly during holdiays. If you'd like to send such a thing, you can send it by way of me. Just double wrap the package, place the letter in another envelope, or whatever you think will work, provided a working address is on the front.

God bless you all!

We'll miss you, Topher.. It sure will seem quiet around here without you... You make a lot of us laugh!!!

Still with I could have met you in person before you had to to... It's so ridiculous I've been down to Colorado Springs so many times inthe past year and we've not been able to meet up.

All the best.

Can we send packages/parcels... and not just letters?

Never mind, I went back and read your first post, which answered my question lol..

Thank goodness for the 'edit' button :)

I know there are a lot of other soldiers on here too (from a wide array of nations) who are deployed or deploying. You guys should post your APO/FPO addresses too.

First off, letters! Words of thanks or encouragement go a long way when you're sleeping in a garage-sized tent along with nine equally nasty-smelling guys.

As for goods and such, DVDs - Action, Drama, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, TV-Series Box Sets, etc. Bags of coffee, candy that won't melt or break, magazines, books, etc. There's a good website out there - anysoldier.com , that gives advice on things to ship, as well as lists of things that soldiers have requested. In about two to three months, we're going to need hygiene items, as people run out of their stocks and the limited supplies we have on the FOB start getting depleted.

We're a headquarters unit, so not very many of us are leaving the wire. So we don't need stuff like silly string, beany babies, floor mats, and all that jazz.

God bless you!

send lots of baby wipes, you may think thats odd but baby wipes are really usefull for deployments, where i was there wasn't any showers, so we took baby wipe baths lol, and its really good at getting the carbon off the weapons. Send lots of socks too, but not ankle socks, make sure there socks that go good with boots. I know he said they will be on a FOB so the luandry turn around might be decent for them.

and besides the basic needs send lots of snacks , like dorito's oreo's and etc, my platoon actually loved the tuna packets with packets of mayonaise. and send cans of soup and stuff. there's times when resupply can't get to ya and you have to deal with out eating much for awhile.

also to add, Topher i hope everyone in your platoon remembered to bring head lamps, and power convertors. head lamps are priceless to have on deployment, and I don't know how it is now, but when i was deployed all the generators ran 210V, and you need a converter since all american electronics charge on 110v.
