If someone likes you more than a friend? Why or why not?

For those who need more context...
-It's someone you talk to on a regular basis
-It's someone who is close to your age
-It's someone you think is ok looking but you're not attracted to them physically

I'd like to know. I am rather shy when it comes to the whole asking women out thing. Not that I'd want a woman to propose marriage to me, but it be nice to be told someone likes me as more than a friend. Otherwise I will probably never know, plus as far as I am aware no one is particularly attracted to me. Heh quite frankly, maybe I am a bit of a hopeless romantic, but if a woman that I found to be okay looking said this to me I'd be pretty smitten. So I voted "Yes, because I might like them back."

Though of course I don't think this will be a problem for me anytime soon, if ever lol.

So if someone liked me in a "romantic" sense, would I want to know is what yer' asking?
Anyone who truly is my friend & knows me,knows that they can say anything at any time to me. I'd hope that they would feel comfortable in sharing that...if they didn't,then chances are they're not the type of friend I'd want to be involved with in that deeper sense that would be romantic and lead to dating and/or marriage.

Crimson_Lark, sorry if it seems like I'm splitting hairs, but depending on the answer, it might change how I answer the poll.

Is this news that someone likes me from the person themself, or am I finding out via a friend or something?

You know what's funny.... its hard to tell when someone likes you, but its easy to tell when someone doesn't like you.

ten years ago i would've said, "oh please NO!!!!"

the last time this happened to me we ended up talking about it, and i was able to honestly share what i felt about him. it was a really uncomfortable conversation, but i was glad to be given that chance to share my thoughts and how much i valued him as a good friend.

by clearing the air, it completely removed that weird dynamic that has developed, and i stopped worrying that he was going to make some awkward confession at any moment.

while i was pretty sure how he felt about me, i never felt directly free to address it without his opening that door. besides, what if i was wrong? AWKWARD!!!

it's been a couple years, and we're still friends today, by the way.

Actually the title over the poll reads this way... "
[h=2]Poll: If someone likes you more than a friend, do you want him/her to tell you?"[/h]

I think I would want the person to tell me if they liked me, because then I could honestly tell them yes or not and not leave them hanging. It's a terrible feeling. I would be compassionate and understand their feelings, but give them the opportunity to get a real answer.

There was a guy, whom I still know, who I liked for almost 2 years without ever truly telling him at all. I still have regrets for not being brave enough just to let it be known. Then at least he could have been honest and given me and answer. Who knows, maybe he knew and it hurt him that he couldn't just tell me I didn't have a chance.

It would be good to know. I mean who knows a really good friendship might come out of it if nothing else. Not that I think there are many that would crush on me though.

if people like you they will like you, if they don't, then they don't, should it matter if they don't?

I really want to vote No, but for none of the reasons associated with the No votes. I don't think that it makes things awkward, and I don't want the information to be exchanged in either direction. Is it too late for there to be an option that's just "No"?

You would find out from the person not a third party.

Once people start voting I can't change the poll.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, I have to admit, I was surprised by the number of men who want to know if someone likes them.

Yes and no, but i think more no then yes. If i knew then something changed and he didn't like me anymore, well that would be very disappointing. However, if i didn't know and something changed i would have no idea and so it wouldn't affect me.
