Shopping is usually no big deal, especially for men. Today is different, at least for me. We are looking for an engagement ring. I'm 71, my fiancee turns 70 soon. She was widowed 11 years ago, I was divorced over 25 years ago. I never imagined that I'd marry again, especially at my age. God is still in the miracle business.

If you are discouraged, don't give up. Be yourself, keep close to Jesus, be content and be joyful. Happy people are more attractive than the gloomy. Keep in mind that if you are saved, you are the richest and most blessed person on the planet. You may not have everything going for you in this life, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to eternity. Let the Lord be your joy, and you will have His strength.

wow someone actually followed my advice and going shopping for an engagement ring! I thought nobody even bothered to read what I wrote on singles forum!

tip. make sure it fits , if its too big will fall off, if too small will suffocate fingers.

Did you know diamonds began to supercede emeralds and rubies at the same time lighting in public areas began to improve because of electricity? Glitter became more important than color.

I happy that you have found some happiness.

I'm afraid that if anything happened to my wife I'm just going to be a curmudgeon. Too bitter and sad to have anyone in my life anymore. It take too long to train a new wife. I've had mine for 12 years....just now getting her trained. She isn't perfectly trained but I can live with her. (Preceeding is a joke)

My wife is my best friend in the whole world for my whole life.

Glad you found your best friend. .

Congrats to the both of you in your upcoming nuptials. I agree with your estimation completely. After my divorce I was single and celibate for 18 years. I wanted something more deeper, rewarding, and satisfying that just simply looking after myself.

I thought it was meant to be two rings though, one for you and one for her. Obviously not the same size.

I dont understand all the secrecy about it though. some women seem to think it has to be a surprise and the man has to produce a ring out of thin air like some magic show and play dumb like they didnt know he was going to even ask.

?! I would have thought if you were going down that road, both of you would know cos you going to be going down that road together, with eyes open.

We've ordered the engagement ring as it has to be resized. We have a few months to get the wedding rings. I don't know why there should be a surprise sprung on the potential wife. And if she says no? What do you do with the ring?

Perhaps I'm more pragmatic than romantic, but she knew that I would be proposing at an appropriate time and place. That was the romantic bit. I did that entirely for her benefit as she is more the romantic type. I have to say that I enjoyed the occasion as well.

well thats good it would be annoying if you went to pay and the eftpos machine said DECLINED

Though a lot of people use afterpay for big purchases now.

I dont think many people actually go and dig the gold out of the ground and fashion their own rings.

Usually jewellery just got handed down within the family. Unless it gets buried in the grave with the body.
Was it a diamond ring? Do you know where the diamonds came from?

Not natural diamond, likely synthetic or even more likely, cubic zirconium.

If I had a ring I think I would like the gem stone or crystal to be heart shaped. I like the stones to be polished not cut up though so would go for the natural ones.

Probably a jade or greenstone as is traditon. Pearls are also nice...and Biblical. Theres the pearl of great price that Jesus mentioned.

not the 'diamond of great price' haha. It was probably more like the 'diamond of great debt'

Lots of precious stones mentioned in Revelation, though diamond isnt one of them.
