"...Some people feel guilty about their anxieties and regard them as a defect of faith but they are afflictions, not sins. Like all afflictions, they are, if we can so take them, our share in the passion of Christ..."

I was wondering what is anyone's opinion on the previous quote, which is from one of C.S. Lewis' books. What do you think? How much value can I put into it & should I ever repeat it? Does anyone know any Bible verses relative to the quote?

Thank you for your time :D

I believe they are indeed afflictions. And I'm not saying that because of any biblical point of view, but from a psychological view. Anxieties are a symptom of a neurosis (constant or prolonged fear or worry about something that is not an immediate, physically manifested threat). Anxieties are learned and can be unlearned through therapy or self-help. Some anxieties run very deep such as with soldiers returning from combat or someone who experienced some sort of traumatic event and those anxieties may take more than just therapy or self-help to unlearn. Those may need prayer and a miracle.

And to add to that...anxieties are often the underlying cause of even bigger problems like alcoholism, drug abuse and smoking addiction.

1 Peter 5:7 "casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."

Matthew 6:25-27 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

Philippians 4:6-7 "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.

The first one is my favorite. Cast your burdens on God, and He will take them. All of them. :)

One last verse that may help is Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

Great verses up there!
The quote made me think of Paul actually. He's someone God used in a big way, but obviously had his own issues to deal with too.

2 Corinthians 12:6-10

New International Version (NIV)

6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

two examples of followers of our Lord Jesus Christ who are lying to them self,

1John2:3-4
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1john1:6-7
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Believe + walk in darkness = fake path = hell (evidence in these verses listed)

Believe + walk in light = fellowship + blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin = heaven (only if it is our Fathers will)

If you are a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ who came down in the Flesh and our Father the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, go study your bible and learn what walking in light or darkness even means

Thank you for your time, and have a good day.
