By the way, if you have to reinstall Windows from scratch there is a really easy way. Most computers these days come with a clean reinstall already on the computer. You use it by pressing an F key (F10, F12, etc) when you turn your computer on. Which F key depends on the manufacturer - you can try them all or google up your particular computer and "reinstall windows" - for example, "ThinkPad T400 reinstall windows."

It will wipe out your whole system and reinstall it. It will delete all your data so if there is something you want to save you should copy it to a flash drive before reinstall. Most manufacturers also have an option to save personal data, but if your computer got messed up by a virus there's a really good chance the virus will be in with your personal data. Better to choose the clean reinstall... and then run an antivirus scan on those files you saved on a flash drive.

Cool, we'll see what we can find out

and yeah, viruses like to hide in stuff one doesn't want to loose
I am convinced I have a virus on my old hard drive, but no antivirus program has spotted it yet :p

Nevah! (Besides I'm off work until Monday.)

Stop loitering on CC and go to bed. It's morning here so it must be night there.

In case there is no dedicated hotkey, try F8 and select the repair Windows option. Some manufacturers (most notably Dell, I think) will hide the factory recovery there in the Windows repair utility.
