Matthew 22:28-30
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Romans 7:2
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

There will be no marriage covenant between men and women in Heaven. You only get this life with your spouse, and for that reason you ought to cherish it. Seek peace and love, why have division when you can have unity? Be a peacemaker, love as Christ loved.

Things are often valued based in scarcity, and to consider that only in this life is the marriage covenant valid, and then in the resurrection there is no more marriage, to me is saddening. How much then should we value the time we have? Don’t waste a moment. Seek peace and love.

Thanks for the encouragement and reminder Ben :)

Agree, sometimes us singles can get caught up with wanting or desiring to be with “the one” when we’re not promised to be with them in Heaven.

I’d rather be praising God and worshiping with Jesus in heaven tbh ❤️

Marriage is of course a Earthly relationship but just to keep in perspective that Jesus didn’t say that earthly relationships will be nullified in heaven. Those of us who accept God’s merciful offer of unmerited deliverance and salvation, will definitely be together with our loved ones in the next life. We just don’t know exactly what form that togetherness will take.

Human relationships will be different in heaven. But they can’t be less than what they’ve been on earth. Instead, they’ll be something more, something better, something far more fulfilling and satisfying than we can imagine.

That’s part of the glory of the resurrected life. And the apostle John hints at this glory when he says, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2, ESV).

So we shouldn't view this is sad but actually hopeful and beautiful that we get to see and be with our loved ones in a glorified state. Which is way better than we possibly can comprehend.

Scripture definitely seems to suggest we will know our loved ones in the next life. However scripture is clear that we won’t be given in marriage which means your wife will no longer be your wife, which we can only assume the intimacies shared in marriage also go away. Not referring to sex, I mean affection (kissing, cuddling, etc). At least that’s the way I am perceiving it. You two will no longer be one, is what “not given in marriage” seems to imply.

As I said, kind of sad. But of course the Lord has great things ahead.

Where? I have read: For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

2 Samuel 12:23 King James Version (KJV)
23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me

1 Thessalonians 4:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

David and his son, saying he will go to him. Then this verse in Thessalonians as a comfort to people that they will be raised with the dead in Christ.

Going to the same place does not necessarily mean we will know anyone there. Neither does being with the Lord say we will know or recognize others who are with Him. The comfort is being with Christ. You read a lot into those verses that simply is not there... as do others. What you read in directly contradicts what Scripture explicitly states.

What if ..... there's no more marriage in heaven not because the intimacies shared in marriage go away, but because we have the time and capacity to connect with everyone that deeply and there's just no more need for the exclusivity of marriage? [ No I'm not saying heaven is one big orgy, I'm saying that our friendships and emotional and spirutual connection with other people could be on a completely different level and all possibility of sinning against each other would also be gone]

well this is singles forum but that passage ladies were looking at in our Bible study and just to say Jesus was great at answering tricky questions. Like a lot of the ones posed on the singles forum concerning anxieties over who is going to be married, will I ever be married? which one is my wife or husband?

Listen to Jesus folks, it wont matter in heaven.

That's a beautiful reminder, thanks Ben.

I've always understood that passage about us not being given in marriage as just that - no more marriage, and no more sex. From a carnal perspective, it might seem like a bummer, but from a spiritual perspective, it makes perfect sense, because the relationships on the other side of eternity will be so filled with pure, agape love and joy, that you won't long for sex or anything like that.

I believe this also because I have experienced the love of God tangibly a few times and I can tell you with certainty that it's 100% fulfilling and there's no place for any more desire or longing when you're in the direct presence of His love.

Sex is a physical representation of the spiritual reality of becoming one with the Lord through His Spirit. The spiritual reality is much stronger and intense in terms of feelings and experience so there is nothing to worry about. We will be incredibly happy and fulfilled there (by God's grace we will all get there).

As regards to remembering each other, I believe we will, simply because I don't see why we wouldn't. I interpret this verse: "and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind" as we won't remember the pain and struggles we experienced during our earthly life. But only the Lord knows.

I consider the affection between a husband and wife, and I wasn’t specifically referring to sex, but even just physical affection. Holding her hand, cuddling, and so on. A kiss. Affection.

Will there be any of those tangible forms and expressions of love? Or is that too, gone? I understand making love being gone, but what of affection?

Why would making love necessarily be gone?

Oh Tourist, please tell me you are not awaiting 72 virgins. 😆

Well, intercourse is done within the confines of marriage, in covenant and outside of marriage it is considered fornication and therefore sin. So, if no one is given in marriage, and there is no sin in Heaven, then making love is gone.

God is love. Whoever does not love does not know God. Jesus commands us to love like Him, and lay down our lives for others. We are told we love because He first loved us, that there is no fear in love, for perfect love drives out fear, and love covers a multitude of sins. In 1 Timothy 1:5, Paul tells us "The end of our endeavor is love, out of a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith." In 1 Peter 4:8, Peter says "Above all else put on love."

@BenFTW

I believe we'll still be able to give hugs and probably kisses on the cheek or something. I've heard several people give testimonies of them meeting Jesus and hugging Him / kissing Him, that's why I think that, but also because God Himself created affection, so I don't see why it'd be gone after this life. But of course I don't know the extent to which affection could go and how it'd play out exactly. Hopefully we will see that for ourselves once we get there... : )
