Hi guys and gals:

We've talked about this topic before but I haven't seen it in a while, so I thought I'd bring up the topic of race/ethnicity/culture when it comes to dating and marriage.

How do you feel about dating someone who is of another race? Would you move to another country to be with that person even if their culture and lifestyle were drastically different from what you were used to (meaning, they were a passionate Christian like you, but the ways of living due to the place they live in are much different than your own)?

I myself have actually never dated anyone who was of the same race as myself--not because of any special preference, but because I'm adopted and, growing up in a small town, there weren't any other Korean guys.

I have an adopted Korean brother (but we were adopted at different times and are not biologically related) whose wife is Chinese/Vietnamese, and my other brother ("the white boy", as I affectionately call him), ironically, married a girl who is native South Korean (and moved from Korea to be here with him.) My ex-husband was white/Filipino--I tell people my family is half-Asian... and that the Asians are taking over... (You should see the way people stare when we all go into restaurants together.) I also joke with my parents that I may have to marry a white guy someday in order to restore the racial balance to the family (JUST KIDDING!!!)

I have (obviously) always been open to dating someone of another race, but when I was younger, I would have been much more reluctant to move to another country... maybe God is simply trying to break down some of my stubbornness and personal fears, because these days, I'd pretty much be open-minded to most anything, as long as it was God-directed.

How about you?

Only one race, the human race, only way I see it.

Never really had a cultural issue as most of the women I've dated were from the same general region of the US as me, but I've had dates with women who were of different races, so that's not a huge deal to me, I guess. Pengu has it right, we're all God's creation.

Now, culturally, I could see where there could be some tough matches depending on what the cultural leanings were, but I don't think that'd be something that'd prevent a first date or two, but it'd be something certainly to consider down the line in the relationship as things got more serious.

I have not dated outside of my race, or more accurately my culture but it would not deter me at all, if anything I'd see it as one more positve to the experience. It's wonderful to meet someone new and explore who they are and if I found myself also discovering a new culture and way of life that would be great and I'd make an effort to embrace everything my partner could bring into my life.

I also wouldn't have any problem relocating, but that's probably more to do with the fact that I have disliked the area I live in and would love to go somewhere else.
