You vote! But we only want votes from users 18 and older (doesn't matter if you're single or married but must be 18 or older to vote). Your vote will be visible in this poll.

Should posting in the Christian Singles Forum be restricted to users 18 and older?

I don't think it matters a whole lot either way, and I don't think anyone should make a big deal about it either way. But I'd like to take a poll, then I'll take it to our admin team. Can't say for sure we'll go with the majority but we certainly value the input.

So go ahead and vote!

Thanks!

Added note: The Singles forum will remain visible to all. This poll is simply about whether nor not to allow posting in the forum, from users age 13-17.

FYI this site allows users 13 and up. Hence if we don't have any restriction on this forum, then there will be 13 and 14 year olds posting and mingling here in the "singles" fellowship. Also note that we have a Chrisitan Teens Forum, as well as many other forums that teens and everyone can participate in without any age restrictions.

Oh shucks, it closed the poll when I closed the thread. Okay so I guess the thread has to be open for the poll to be open. So be it.

If you tried to vote and couldn't, try it again now. :)

I voted no, simply because I don't think that there's really anything inappropriate discussed. We probably talk about sexual issues here much less than the teens forum or the miscellaneous/bible study forums do. I think maybe it's a good thing that young ones can see some of these posts because even though they are young, they may see somebody making a post about a difficult situation they can relate to (Like dating a non-christian, feeling alone because they can't find anybody that seems to like them, having problems opening up to others, etc....) and get some value out of that

I'm sure there's a reason for the suggestion being brought up but I'm not sure what the reason is......may I ask why this is up for a vote? They could always just make an account that fakes their age, I don't think a lot of kids would view that as "wrong"....Then you may possibly even have a different pickle to deal with concerning more accounts with fake data, curiosity could possibly inspire some to make new accounts just to see this forum they "aren't allowed to see".

I'm with you, I really don't care either way what actually happens concerning it but I see value in leaving it open to them and no value in closing it to them.

Hi Donkeyfish, the vote is about allowing or not allowing under 18 to post. The forum will remain visible to all.

Yes it was a suggestion so I'm taking a vote. I'm too lazy to type out the reasons for the suggestion but there is another related thread where it's hashed out which you can read.

Thanks, I actually seen that thread shortly after I posted in this one. I'm behind you either way, just putting my thoughts on it out there

The thing is, doing this makes no sense unless you set similar restrictions through all the forums. And i've been on sites who did that and they were not very pleasant. It was tiring having to constantly hop through various sections. And was difficult to get to know anyone because they were 'spreading' things around so much that no one really seemed to get to know each other as well. So it felt like you were the only one on the site and 'talking' to people didn't exist. There was no back and forth and getting to be familiar with each other.

I voted no, in the UK you are considered an adult at 16 but aside from that I think that sometimes the teens, in particular my fab twinny Lil, make some very good points. I think if there was any restriction it should be on starting threads rather than commenting on them but that may be too specific to enforce.

I voted no because I believe that we should make teens comfortable discussing things with adults and everytime we separate youth and adults, we teach youth that adults don't understand and teach adults to disconnect from teens since they are separate from us and only need their youth leaders. I see this in churches all the time.

We were teens. We know we went to ask outsideres things that parents avoided... I´m happy I can talk my children and, this week, my children´s sister asked me about rejection, being rejected in her school (she is only 6 years old) and felt rejection as hard as it could be when she thinks friends ARE IMPORTANT for her.

I wish I would havd recorded that talk...

She learned friends are with you for the right reason, for accpeting YOU the way you are, because they like you, perhaps a little more a person likes him/herself.

Uff! Excuse me.

I don't see that it's a big deal to let them post. There's a bigger issue with older people posting personal ads than teens. I also find younger peoples insight and advice quite intriguing at times

I voted yes. To keep teens here, I would think they need their own room.

A room for kids should have consistent moderation.

I think if young children gather and can chat, there shouldn't be a pm feature, to keep everything above board, in the open and to protect from posers.

Ummm, just real quick. May I ask why it's set up like this? If the teens can't post in it, then why should they be able to see it? To me that's kind of like, "Look, but don't touch." when you have the option of, "Out of sight, out of mind."

Plus, it does kind of hurt to think that I'm just a year away from being 18, and before this issue came up, I was considered equals with the rest of everyone. The majority didn't really care I was 17, because I was always a good sport, and I have been raised by older parents who taught me that maturity is extremely important. Unfortunately, this means I don't always relate with teenagers my age.

I truly did find a spot on CC where I enjoyed myself. I've tried out the Miscellaneous forum, and it's just not the same. One of the first thread titles was titled "Sex" and the Teens Forum is full of "Homosexuality/Masturbation/other stuff that pushes the envelope....is it okay?"

I also have done my time in Bible Discussion....wowza. Never again.....never again. o_O

I think if this is voted yes, I might just either take a year off or leave, because I've tried other things, and it hasn't worked. I will miss you all, and I hope and pray God continues to work in each and every one of you. :)

I am going to post this and be done.

IF restrictions are going to be put in place then it needs to be fair.. meaning if those under 18 can not post here then nether should married people be posting here cause married is NOT single. Also then the Teens forum should be for teens only no adults period. an adult is NOT a teen.

If it can't be done fair, then I am walking away from this place. ether be fair about restrictions or don't do restrictions at all.

TL;DR
If restrictions should be set in place, it should be fair across the board.
Singles Forum is for SIngles only 18+ no under 18 no Married people.
Teens for is for Teens no adults period.
or no restrictions what so ever.

back to my non-posting until the fall out of all this is over.

I was initially in favor of it, and still kinda am. But I think my decision is ultimately based more on the quality of content in the section.

This section is filled with threads which say the same thing:

"Why won't anyone date me?"
"Where are the good Christian guys/girls?"
"Is sex before marriage OK?"
"I hate being single"
"Why it's OK to be single"

My question is, what are the age ranges of people making these posts? If it's teenagers then I would be in favor of the restriction. These are topics that have been discussed, re-discussed, and discussed some more. For people like me, it's irritating. If however it's angsty 20-somethings who are naturally expected to behave themselves more than a teenager (no offense to teens, obviously), then the restriction would make no sense.

Per the thread title this is unrelated to the chat rooms.

American adults score below average on worldwide test measuring math, reading and problem-solving.

I hope you don't ban teens or married people. This is the forum I feel most comfortable in.

That is unserviceable.

So then all of the moderators on the teens forum have to be teenagers?

"Fair" isn't always possible.

It's pretty much been said that married people are still welcome. So you're off the hook, Fenner. No worries for you or MissCris, or anyone else that is married.

That seems so unfair :(
I had voted Yes on the poll (I'm sorry lil! I don't want you to go, honestly) based off some personal experiences when I was a teenager....
But...
It really would be more fair, based off a lot of the reasons given here to keep teens out, if married folks didn't post here either.
