Standoff: a stalemate or deadlock between two equally matched opponents in a dispute or conflict.

Mexican standoff: Two people with pistols. Neither is willing to lower his gun.

Canadian standoff: Two people with an open door between them. Each is waiting for the other to pass through.

Bro standoff: Two guys arguing about picking up the check at a restaurant, as a matter of pride. Each is certain if he lets the other guy take the check, his chest hair will fall out.

Any other standoffs you can think of?

On the rare occasion I have a friend to go out to dinner with, we usually end up having a mild argument over who picks up the check. The craziest one was the friend that we agreed to pay for each other's meals, but then there was something shared on the check and it got complicated and she insulted me by saying it was too complicated for me to figure out so she's just take care of it.

I called her out on her insult and she admitted that in truth I could figure it out, but still insisted on paying.

But if w'ere making up other standoffs:

Italian standoff: no one is willing to take the last piece of pizza.

Fellowship standoff: no one is willing to be first in line for the church potluck

American standoff: citizenry riot and rampage against the system, intolerantly abusing
any who oppose them while claiming they are seeking justice, peace, and tolerance.

4-way standoff: Four cars arrive at a 4-way crossing at the same time, and each is not sure whether he should drive through first or wait for somebody else.

(You people who know only roundabouts have no idea what I'm talking about. You are SO lucky!)

Must not have any kids in the congregation...

We have a standing rule that elders go first at a church dinner. But if we didn't announce it before every dinner... well, we don't scramble and push and shove, but we don't waste any time either. There's good southern home cooking at stake here!

A Jewish "stand off". No one's willing to pick up the check.

The Adulting Standoff: When you have so many things requiring you to actively engage in adulting -- "There's a pile of bills that need to be paid;" "No one's done the dishes in 3 days;" "The lawn needs mowed" -- that you feel overwhelmed and wind up watching YouTube (or playing video games, brushing your cat, eating a bag of Doritos) for the rest of the afternoon instead.

You are totally exaggerating! accept for the dishes thing, and laundry, and polishing the wood floors.
oh, okay. I get your point...

Legendary standoff: Two people that are better than the rest and combat each other to make history. Ali vs Fraiser, Fury vs Joshua, etc
