This is one of over 1000 songs Solomon wrote, does it belong in the Bible? I guess it does it's in there! Has it any merit in today for the common people who seek after love, or is it just for nobility? Can a common person who has nothing even deal with feelings or emotions like this? Can we even understand it, or is its poetic pros outdated? Is it an allegory just for God and His beloved? Is it a typology for Christ Jesus as the Bridegroom and His Bride? Can I look at it and find my own place in it as an individual in my relationship with Christ? As I studied this book the last couple of days, I pondered my place in it, and I found myself there. Where she opened the door and He turned away and could not find Him nor hear His voice, then wondering the streets and being struck and wounded by the watchmen, who were the keepers of the walls about the city. I'm at another crossroad, and this just seems to be the way God deals with me at times like this. What are your thoughts on the Song of Solomon; in your life, the Church or the 21st Century?

The Song of Solomon is beautiful, and of course it has a place in our century.

Whenever I'm with a girl I think might be "the one", and I really want to be romantic, I always say,
"Thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead."

So far I'm still single...

I think it's all in the delivery.

: )

It's also very vaguely translated into English. The original Hebrew was quite graphic which embarrassed the prudish church leaders at the time. For example, that isn't her "navel" that he is drinking from, and her "garden" might more modernly be referred to as a bush. It is relevant today and depicts a man and a woman blessedly giving and receiving pleasure from each other through the many stages of their relationship--even when she is old and fat (belly like a mound of wheat)!

Is it a typology for Christ Jesus as the Bridegroom and His Bride?
I think it is this.

Yeah its about sex...and i tend to keep sex and jesus very very far apart in my head

Its just a poetic look at love and sex through a biblically appropriate lens

True, clearly it's about the intimate love of Christ for His church, and also the love of Jesus for each individual soul. ;)

How many of the readers of Song of Solomon who question why it should be in the Bible for one reason or another actually love their wife as much as Christ loves the church? Are we or are we not the bride of Christ? If one is dealing with a lack of sexual intimacy, what do we tell them?... to hold out and cling to God because they are the bride of Christ, the perfect bridegroom.

I agree with you Misty it is kind of steamy! That's why I thought it would go over better in the singles forum, silly me! Maybe the church leaders done their job to well, I remember growing up and the subject was just taboo! I know that today sexual immorality runs rampant, and the filth that comes out of some peoples mouth is unbelievable. But still, people in the church fall in love and maybe we should take another look at God's passion for His beloved.

Do not awaken or arouse love before His time :)

This is important, or, Solomon's God-breathed words from Scripture wouldn't have been said.

This 'do not awaken....' is the GIRL talking, too, so, that is clear, that she can be overtaken by allowing someone to awaken love in her before it's God's time for this in her to become real. But, the GUY, too, should really pay heed to this, too, even though the guy is NOT referenced in Song of Solomon in 'this' way.

A guy, if I were to say things for myself, should give God all the direction, PUT everything of your wanting love of a girl in His hands, and, best way to do this is to KEEP YOURSELF out of situations where love can, well, be aroused or awakened before His time for it for you. So, don't put YOURSELF in situations that compromise His ability to work through you alone, as Satan IS REAL and that snake will do strange, crazy, even, hypnotizing things to your brain to get you to take over YOURSELF and you in control of YOURSELF is never going to be a great ending, for, left to our own devices, as Paul preaches, 'Not one of us is good, no, not one,' in Romans 3 and also that Jeremiah speaks of a man's heart, which is 'evil.'

We MUST rely on God, have Him in our heart and in our thoughts be what Paul says we all have in 1 Cor. 2 , 'the mind of Christ.' :)

So, yes, the Song of Solomon is a beautiful love story that God will put in your life in His timing if it be His will for thy life :)
