Everyone has to face situations where some sort of corageous conduct has to be displayed.

These situations can differ somewhat from person to person, but bottom line you have to stand up and fight for yourself or someone you love or your country.

It could be a simple thing like making groceries, or a traditionally scary thing like parachuting...or it could be telling someone you love that they oughta get their act together.

So, what is courage?

Courage is the ability to continue to function even when one is in the state of great fear..

Courage stops you from freezing or fleeing from a situation..

Courage and faith go together.
One has courage to keep the faith and to remain
steadfast and true, despite so many tribulations,
hurts, doubts, aches and pains.
And yet even after 20 or 30 or 40 years we have the courage
to keep on believing and praying and upholding our testimony.

Courage is believing in the truth in a world that does not give any
value to truth, nor seeks it.

takes away fear. It is his punishment that makes a person fear.
So his love is not made perfect in the one who has fear.

It's no secret that a lot of people dislike me on here. I remember getting one message saying that cc would be better off if I were to roll over and die. I was mortified that people proclaiming to be Christians would do that and they don't even know me, but no matter how many people didn't like me, I didn't give up and instead of giving in to their qualms, I spoke the truth. I've learned not to care what people think, but rather if I follow what God tells me and what is laid out in the bible, I will be all set. I view that as being strong and courageous :)

I don't know you, renewed_hope, but that was harsh words they were using. Yes, I'd say you are courageous.

Courage is...a lot of little things that all boil down to someone ignoring the voice that says they will fail or be hurt. And it’s faith, and integrity, and honesty. Trusting someone is courageous, and so is loving them.

I’m not a particularly courageous person. I find that a lot of the things I’ve done or said in the past that people praised as being so courageous were actually just things I didn’t bother to think much about before doing/saying them. I’m far more impulsive than I am brave. I don’t even have the courage to not mind what people think of me- particularly after I’ve been impulsive and possibly completely off my rocker.

But-

I’ve been given some really powerfully honest advice/feedback by a few people; to get my head out of the clouds and try living in the real world, that I am reactive rather than proactive and often take the easiest route, and that I put up a defensive barrier by putting myself down. And that’s just a quick overview...anyway, getting to the part where I have personally shown courage-

It’s been a long road, working on changing anything about myself- it’s an ongoing thing. I’ve often wondered why God allowed the events that shaped me into the person I was- if I was then going to have to fight to change it. If I was then going to have to face far-reaching consequences of being exactly what I’d allowed myself to become. I think the courage comes in when I want to quit; when I can’t see where any of it is going and I choose to trust that God knows even if I don’t.

Courage, is feeling the fear or doubt, and doing it anyway. Faith, is the why.

Spiritual courage is the high heart that sees the difficulty and faces it. That is the courage that is valuable to God. Are we continually filled with enough courage to say, "The Lord is my helper," or are we yielding to fear? "He Himself has said .... So we may boldly say..." (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Jesus does not ask me to die for Him, but to lay down my life for Him. (John 13:38). It is much easier to die than to lay down my life day in and day out with the sense of the High calling of God. For thirty-three years Jesus Laid down His life to do the will of His Father. "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us." And I must live courageously as well, laying down my life for my brethren. (1 John 3:16). Yet in courage's premise it is contrary for me to do so.

The Christian life is gloriously difficult, but its difficulty does not make us faint and cave in - it stirs us up to overcome!

"Enter by the narrow gate .... Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life..." (Matthew 7:13-14). But, our courage comes from our Fathers assurance; His joy gives us strength - "He Himself has said ... So we may boldly say..."

Are we learning to listen to God before we speak, or are we saying things and then trying to make God's Word fit what we have said? Confidence and courage go hand and hand, yet it is God's hand in it that gives the value in its reality.

When I think of courage I think of those who run towards the battle instead of away from it because they're the ones whose job it is to defend the rest of us... That includes those who have to take on criminals and fight fires and tend to accident victims with horrific injuries. God bless them all. To me they are the epitome of courage.

Could you imagine, running off a Higgins craft, on to a beach, under intense gun fire? When they stepped off, the boat left, and there was nowhere to retreat.

In the broadest of terms, I think courage is knowing that what you should or need to do is likely to have negative repercussions for you and doing it anyway because you know it's the right thing to do.

I think, more than just fighting when you are scared, true courage is getting back up to your feet every time you are knocked down.
