I don't want to bash the mormons, or any other religion either. That said, I use to be a Mormon and do not, I repeat: I DO NOT consider them to be Christians. They spend more time talking about Joseph Smith than Jesus Christ. Their services are like this, Sacrament, Sunday School, Elders Quorum for the men and relief society for the women. Maybe not in that order though. They also talk about avoiding the "appearance of evil," but use the example: If a man is seen with a woman who's not his wife: that's the appearance of evil." Never mind who that woman is or where they were seen at.

Once a month, usually on the 1st Sunday of the month, is their "fast and testimony" where a lot of the people get up and give their testamony. They pretty much say the same thing: "They know the church is true. And Joseph Smith was a prophet of God."

There was a lot of discussion in another thread about paying tithes & offerings. With the Mormons, if you don't pay your tithes in full, they won't give you any help or even want you around. In fact, when I lived in Salt Lake, UT. They didn't want me around even when I WAS a full tithe payer. I wasn't part of their group; an outsider, & convert.

I could go on but don't want to cause i'm afraid I'm starting to bash them, even though I am speaking from my experiences with them. The best advice I could give to anyone is to stay a Christian and DO NOT JOIN THE MORMON CHURCH!!

They are polytheists.
They haven't been that for over a hundred years. The ones that might be are not part of the official Mormon church. They're in the ReOrganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints does not recognize as a part of them.

When polygamy was banned, the Mormon church went along with that, but some didn't want to and formed the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints.

Before you classify Mormons(or any religion) as "Non Christian", maybe you should lay out what constitutes a TRUE christian. I'm open to hearing other peoples views on what makes a christian, I like to keep things simple so here is mine.

- Believes in Jesus Christ as his Savior
- Strives to live the teachings of Jesus Christ

Judging by this, then Mormons are without a doubt Christian, the actual name of the church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints".

We can and should bash Mormon theology, or the Mormon gospel. It is indeed a different gospel. They say that Jesus came here to America.

But here is what the Bible says:

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! (Gal 1:8-9)

And they have a new improved holy book, the book of Mormons, to supercede the Bible.

And by the way............. they actually believe that God has a mother!!!

I find it funny that none of the posts mentioned their views of what classifies a Christian, they just continue to bash the Mormons. Sounds pretty Christian to me.....(sarcasm for those that didn't get it).

1 - We use the Book of Mormon and the Bible together, the Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible. I've read from the Bible just as much as I have read from the Book of Mormon, maybe more.
2 - What is the Gospel Paul refers to? Is it not faith in Christ as our Savior?
3 - What our doctrine does say is that we all have Heavenly Parents.
"All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny"

I'd really appreciate it if you would answer my original question instead of just continuing to bash, thanks.

My church actually done a series on mormons and how they were not christians.

It is my understanding that:

1. Mormons do not follow or believe in the historic Jesus Christ of the Bible. I have also read that god of the mormons is nothing like the God of the Holy Bible. To mormons Jesus is the First born son of an exalted "man" who became god of this world. They believe that through good work on another planet he achieved godhood the man made god.

The God of the Bible is not an exalted man. The God of the Bible is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. The Bible says He is the only God and there are no other Gods. He had no beginning or end and he is a spirit being and never was a man.

2. the mormon Jesus and our Jesus is two different people.
The Mormon Jesus is the son of the man-made god. The mormon Jesus is the brother of Lucifer

3. I have also heard that Mormons believe you become saved by the good works you have done on this earth instead of asking Jesus Christ into your heart. I have good understanding that the Mormons believe in the levels of heaven. Meaning they can become worthy enough to live in the presence of Jesus Christ.

Now the Jesus and the Holy Bible as I now says alot of time that we will rejoice forever in the presence of the Lord with his salvation. The Mormon church is wrong they are not real Christians.

Another thing a lady at my church use to be a Mormon she said that most of them didn't even know how to get to heaven alot of there teachings when you first visit sound good but once you get deeper into the mormon walk of life its nothing like being a Christian unto God. We need to stop Mormons of there teaching just like we need to stop several other kinds of Gods from there teaching but Mormons are destroying the real Christians but we as Christians also can be blamed for the thought of letting Mormons destroying us.

LOL I hope you can all understand if not asking me some questions

I don't know much about the mormon faith, but I do know that they loose a lot of creditability when they go door to door.

Replying to Godisdaman:

1 - Mormon's definately believe in Jesus Christ, as recorded in the New Testament. We don't believe in the man made creeds that came AFTER the new testament, such as the "trinity", which term is never used in the Bible. I suggest you read this, which makes it very clear that we believe in Jesus Christ from the New testament.
http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.j...toid=f318118dd536c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

2 - So wait, who is your Jesus?

3 - As far as works goes, I refer to James 2:17-26. We believe the Grace of Jesus Christ is REQUIRED for salvation, no amount of works we can do can qualify us for that, since we all sin. We also believe the teachings of the new testament in relation to works, and that we will recieve greater rewards depending on our works. Matthew 16:27, Revelation 22:12, etc.

You mention that a lady at your church who used to be mormon said most of us don't even know how to get to heaven, which is a complete lie. I've talked to MANY people of most religions that reside in the United States, and I don't know any church that has more informed members. There are some that I've seen thats members tend to know alot, but I haven't seen any match up to the "mormon" church. We believe those that follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ will get to heaven, which includes faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End(not once saved always saved).

For those that don't believe in works, I simply ask, why would Christ teach SO MUCH about being a good person if it didn't matter?
