I am way too hard on myself with mistakes, even little ones. It makes it 1000 times worse when other people are not gentle with me, because I already beat myself up on the inside many times per day, sometimes many times per hour.

Are you too hard on yourself? Why?

If you used to be, what did you do to overcome it?

Do you think taking yourself too seriously can cause unrealistic expectations of others?

Discuss. :)

Sometimes...I think we can think too much, get way too introspective and then we pick at our faults (perceived or otherwise) and dwell on things. Basically, none of us are perfect but we do all have a purpose, thank goodness we are also loved, valued and precious....to God. So thats all that really matters. Try getting purpose into your life. Look at your day and ask yourself how its divided up...is there balance in your day? if so, well done (now you can tell us how you do that!! :) Many folks are housebound but still have purpose, we need purpose. Get structure too, just coz we do not have to get up in the morning, does not mean its better for us if we do :) We all have that 'internal voice' that can either build you up or bring you down. Usually our inner voice tells us how rubbish we are!! so....re train it!! challenge that lie! We are all different, we truly are all fearfully & wonderfully made. Maybe some of us take life way too seriously but thank God for them, coz we need the sensible folks to give those of us who are a tad too spontaneous some stability!! :) God Bless you, <><

I'm pretty much opposite...I figure that other people are going to rip me apart for my mistakes, so I don't need to join in.

Probably I'm not hard enough on myself.

I know, I can be hard on myself too and it's something I'm working on. Joseph Prince a (Singapore televised preacher) has helped me a lot when it comes to not condemning myself. Don't worry about being perfect and not sinning. Have your focus on God and everything else falls into place. I love this statement Joseph Prince made "Being in peace is warfare". Meaning keep your peace don't let the devil steal that from you because that's exactly what he's trying to do. It's not so much you beating yourself up as it is the devil trying to steal your peace. Remember you are the righteousness of Christ. Gods not beating you up about it so don't give the devil that right and power over you. We have to really think about who's giving us these negative thoughts that take away our peace and comfort. I assure you it's not from God. Keep your head high your a child of God! Own that!
