Ideas for Youth Groups

Hey! Great Forum! Im from Venezuela, Im a member of a Youth Ministry called Yare! In my ministry we've created a music band, and we do activities every month, for example, we go to Bowling or to movie theater.. just we do something different!
Soon we will have a website...

Excuse me if my english is not perfect!

We used to have lock-ins every now and then when I was in youthgroup. We had a city wide scavernger hunt once. 2 teams had a list of things to find all over the city; fountain, mcdonalds, go sing christmas carols to another member of the church... etc. You had to take a picture of it as proof. The fiirst team back to the church was the winner. Bowling is a great idea too!

I know sometimes to keep the teaching entertaining we would split the youth group into teams and the pastor would have a quiz about the subject. also once the pastor found pics of what we were studying, except the pics were lego scenes, and i can honestly say it helped me remember the sermon more! =]

Here's a simply way to make money for your youth. I hate fundraisers and feel that if your church has a real heart for youth then they would have no problem sponsoring one of your teens. The idea is to put together personal profile (picture, age, grade, birthday, interests) for each teen then ask folks to sponsor a teen for an entire year. A full sponsorship costs $20 a month ($240 a year), or a partial sponsorship at $10 a month ($120 a year). One teen can have one full sponsorship or two partial sponsorships. The money could then used for stuff like summer camp or a field trip, a teen event like "Aquire The Fire" or "THE CALL". Also each sponsor is encouraged to get to know the teen a little. Possibly take them out for lunch from time to time or purchase a couple of school items for the teen. (BTW - You can not sponsor a child related to you!)

Of course each teen who receives sponsorship agrees to participate in various ministry sponsored volunteer activities like helping out a soup kitchen one weekend, mowing grass, babysitting, sitting with the elderly etc.

Not only is this a great way to teach your teens servitude but also helps bridge the generation gap that exists in so many churches today.

World Vision has a good one called "30 hour famine" which teaches teens the importance of fasting while raising money for the less fortunate across the globe.

I strongly suggest visiting Ron Luce's website and checking out some of his teaching materials. You can find them at Battlecry.com

I've been planning to use them for seasonal weekend bootcamps (simulated) for teens. Basically an outdoors campoing event where we will divide out teens into groups and let the compete in military themed activities.

I agree w/ what kingdomgeneration stated above. Also you can do like a dinner and a show to raise money...our youth did that and both times it was a hit.. hav esomeone who is gifted possibly n the drama area to find some themed skit dinners online... and shoot from there!

Also another fun icebreaker is having a race in smearing peanutbutter on a select few youth's faces and either create a design with goldfish on their faces or throw tiny marshmellows from far away and who ever has the most by the end of 2 mins wins! lol

Yes thanks so much for the ideas..I will definately try some of them. Rencently I did a bible treasure hut and that turned out great, we also have alot of discussion but that always turn into debates. We had a camp last year and ironically kingdomgeneration the team was "Aquire The Fire". Oh and smearing peanutbutter sounds cool..mguitar.
