Hello, I know a few on here who have depression and hopefully they will respond to you soon.

Praying for you and remember God is always there for you :)

It's probably why I never want to do anything, and just post on this site all the time.

Have you been professionally diagnosed with depression, or are you often dealing with discouragement? There is a difference between discouragement and depression. Nevertheless, lets say it really is depression you're dealing with. Here are just a few things to consider that has been shown to be helpful with many people:
  1. Exercise - this has been called the most powerful antidepressant known to humans. As I'm sure you know, exercise floods the body with beneficial hormones that make the body feel good, including the mind. Regular exercise is important.
  2. Sunlight - this is also crucial to good mental functioning. A few minutes everyday out in nature enjoying the sunlight and fresh air will impact your brain and mood in wonderful ways. In fact, outside is the best place to get your exercise.
  3. Omega 3 Fatty Acid - many people who have depression have been shown to have an Omega 3 Fatty Acid deficiency. Flax seeds (Linseed) is a powerful source of Omega 3 Fatty Acid. You can simply grind some in a nut and seed grinder. Sprinkle a couple tablespoons a day in your food - cereal, soup, smoothies, salad, etc. Be sure to store it in the refrigerator. Chia seed is also another good source. Other beneficial nutrition include eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Avoid fatty and sugary foods.
  4. Rest - it is vitally important to get to bed by 10 pm every night. Yea, I know this sounds crazy to some people because they have grown accustomed to being "night owls". It is very common for people to stay up late watching TV, or involved with some other form of media device. But this is not good for proper mental or physical functioning. Also, it's helpful to put away all media devices at least one hour before going to bed.
  5. Prayer - start and end each day with some time to pray and read your Bible. Make a collection of some powerful Bible promises and meditate often on them. Keep a gratitude journal, and try to jot down at least 1 or 2 things daily that you are thankful for.
This may seem like a lot, but this is just a snapshot of helpful things.

Blessings!

Yes, not long ago it was very intense. I think a good deal of the issue was not getting the proper nutrition. Another thing that causes depression is suppressing emotions, and not letting them out somehow.

For me, depression wasn't off and on really, it was almost a permanent dusk and growing darker. I would still be there if God hadn't sent one of my friends to help push me out. I wrote about it here: https://unconqueredfaith.wordpress.com/2018/06/03/drowning/
Hope it helps a little bit! :)

Yes I do, it’s rough right now. How I’m getting through is prayer.... prayer... prayer. Also I do have a therapist... but I have been trying to take it one day at a time. God Bless you. If you need to talk feel free to message me.

I've had it for nearly 30 years.
Eating better, being on a consistent night time sleeping pattern and exercise can reduce or eliminate depression, depending on the severity.
Also the cause for your depression can affect what you try to do to deal with it. Go to a doctor and let them know and ask to be checked for physical causes (hormones, low vitamin levels, good allergies, etc...)
If the lifestyle changes do little or nothing and the doctors tests reveal nothing them head to a counselor or psychologist. Do not take medication right away, but let them know you want to go through counseling for a while to try to determine if it's simply bad thinking/coping habits or if its chemical.
If its determined to be chemical (as mine is) then you can determine if you want medication or not. Basically try everything else and medication should only be chosen as a last resort and only if the depression has a severe enough affect on your life.
They'll try to push meds throughout the process but unless its extreme for you push back and say no.
If you're suicidal or simply unable to care for yourself then perhaps medication may be needed earlier, at least until the rest can be determined.
But meds should also not be the only treatment, but counseling as well.

Hello, Austin. It might be helpful to speak to a caring Christian counselor about your specific situation. I know that Focus on the Family can provide a free phone consultation with a licensed counselor if you call this number 855-382-5433.Sending prayers your way… May God bless you in a loving way and guide you.

I recently, about 6 mos ago started taking vitamins, b1 & folic acid every other day and every other, other day B complex. I feel way better. Try it, can't hurt! right after a meal so it can comingle and digest with food or else it'll make you pee like a race horse and down the drain it goes.
I definitely am, and there isn't a whole lot I can do about it

Hi brother Greetings. so i started my walk with Christ 6months ago now! and through out my whole life i have had depression but i have only recently learnt how to overcome it so i just wanna share with you what helped me. so first we have to remember depression is not of God right depression is of the enemy so to overcome depression i believe you have to overcome the enemy i had days where i would be so on fire for the Lord and then days where i felt like my whole world was crashing down and i had no wonder and i was even guilty of questioning if the Lord was not there or why was he not listening to my cry truth is he was the whole time but it was the enemy trying to make me doubt the Lord and not be at peace remember brother satans goal is to seek kill and destory thats his plan and alot of depression can lead to someone killing themselves so that right there we know is of the enemy. when i was feeling attacked with depression i would endure the pain so when your down and feeling like u cant cope Praise the Lord and thank him and Rejoice in Him so endure the pain and rebuke it so when your getting bad thoughts and feeling really down say i rebuke any thoughts of this and just Praise the Lord and remind yourself when satan might roaming the earth seeking to kill and destroy us but we are a body of Christ and we already have Victory over him he is defeated brother Jesus made a way for us brother! also put songs of Praise on and Praise the Lord because satan hates it when we do that! and you will feel the Lords peace and Joy flow through you if u just trust him and have faith and the enemy has no choice but to flee! God bless you brother i hope i i helped in someway ! Jesus loves you

I'm not a Doctor but I know depression and bi-polar disorder are two different things. Bi-polar disorder contains the elements of depression, it does not include manic or mania elements and combined psychosis or paranoia can be schizophrenia which is way different than depression alone. Poor nutrition, lack of B vitamins, green vegetables, thyroid problems etc. Can lead to depression so eating healthy and taking vitamins have no negative side effects if done in reasonable moderation.
